So if health insurance companies are in an adversarial relationship with hospitals because the hospitals know how much things cost and the insurance companies don't why don't the insurance companies just buy or run some model hospitals so they have a baseline to compare against?

So, the options were (a) “Bryan gets to fly home on time and poor people get to eat food,” or (b) “people should have to pay a metric fuck ton for health insurance.” And as a nation, we chose the latter.
So I’ll be hanging out in the Phoenix airport for a few more hours.

Before numbers, Dutch city buildings were given distinctive stone tablets, or gable stones. Sometimes they said something about the resident, sometimes it was patriotic, but it could be anything.
My current favourite is this (17thc??) leopard on Zeedijk, Amsterdam. I love him.

This deal to reopen the government is fucking disgraceful.
Tens of millions will lose their healthcare. Trump will be emboldened.
This is exactly what’s wrong with Democratic Party leadership and why we need more people in Congress who will actually hold the line.

Please don’t think this beltway game of having retiring Dem senators vote yes while everyone else votes no is going to shield leadership from the end result. We see what is happening and can’t be fooled by those games.

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?
