Mom: You should watch this movie!
Me: It sounds like a hallmark Christmas movie
Mom: No! Not that cheesy.

I'm not a particularly fast reader. I tend to go in short bursts. Sometimes that burst just ends up being 55% of the book in a week 😅

We should try out new, niche forms of government:

- narcogarchy: rule by those who are asleep
- noctugarchy: ruling, but only at night time
- olivegarchy: when you’re ruling, you’re family!

I’m reaching the point in my book where i don’t want to put it down, but rather just finish it in one extended reading session. But I don’t have time like that. So for the next few nights I will be going to bed disappointed that I couldn’t read more.

If you showed me a picture of a Saiga’s head and told me it was a creature in a bar with Han Solo and not an actual animal on our real world, I’d believe you.

Instant coffee is fine for most cases.

We’ve had smallish kitchens for the last few years so we haven’t had coffee “infrastructure” and have had more instant coffee than before. Aeropress is great and small, but for most mornings, instant coffee has been just fine.

We did Christmas in a western way, and so New Years will be Japanese.

For Christmas Eve, we had festive decorations, special meals, treats, and gifts.

Now on New Years Eve, my wife hands me a sponge and bucket and tells me to clean the bathroom

I’m not sure I understood the terms of the deal

The hobby that I’ve been the most consistent in maintaining over the years has got to be my Digital Tsundoku.

We have reached the point of winter break where I think, “gee, wouldn’t it be cool to learn to read Middle Egyptian? Hieroglyphics can’t be that hard, right?”

I can’t quite put my finger on why, but it bothers me that Scrooge is miserable at the beginning of the story. And his conversion is in large part due to seeing himself die with nobody there.

Maybe it makes it seem like yet another selfish act rather than actual compassion and kindness?

I was wondering why clothes I bought were too small. I’m a Medium, I’m nearly always a Medium.

Well I bought it in Japan, where Medium actually means Small to the rest of the world…

The intensity with which my son focuses on the single Spider-Man bedtime storybook we have makes me excited for post-Christmas when he’ll have the whole set of Spider-Man storybooks we are getting him.

I don’t think that whoever wrote “Silent Night,” a song about the night a baby was born, has ever had a baby.

Alright well I’ve kinda been hard on Japanese banks for the past few months, but at least I don’t have to wait “up to 3 business days, depending on the financial institution” for money transfers to happen. In my experience it’s been minutes if not seconds. Same with my German bank too, iirc

In a pinch and need something to pinch your curtains shut? Try getting some nail clippers and closing them on the curtain! Hopefully they will be strong enough to keep your curtains closed.

Me: see you later, I’m going out with some friends!

I wrote in an email: “so-and-so was a bit shaken by the earthquake”

I already sent it, but now want to follow-up with “omg no pun intended, they were actually scared, I’m not making a joke!” But I also don’t want to bring attention to it if they didn’t read it like that 🙈

The content YouTube presents to me is pretty terrible, and I’m not sure how it got like this.

I’m gonna start a tradition when gift distributing, I tell people to “render unto me the things that are mine.”

It will be great when my son (also named Caesar) starts doing it too.

I lived in a city whose symbol is a bear, and never in 2 years did I give a passing thought to real life bears.

Now I’ve moved away and I’m subscribed to notifications for when bears show up in my neighborhood or near the school.
