“I know the limits of international law but I still believe in peaceful means of conflict resolution and prevention. So I want to make the system work, but I know that it will take a longer time than normal to fix it – and meanwhile, many more people will die.”

UN rapporteur Francesca Albanese
Is China a Russian ally?

How is that faltering?
Alongside the fall of Syria, the weakening of Iran, and the resurgence of jihadists in the Sahel, the capture of Nicolás Maduro starkly illustrates how Russia’s allies are faltering.
Venezuela shows Russia has lost the initiative in Trump’s global order
Moscow has prioritized the war in Ukraine over its commitments in Venezuela, Syria and Iran as Trump reshapes the world order.

This would be Finland that wants NATO to fight Russia for it in order to settle its old scores, not with the Russians, but the Soviet Bolshevicks?

“Some of that money was going to the government of Venezuela “

Yeh, it’s called tax mate

🤨
Chris Wright: "Today, that oil is coming out, it's all marketed by the US government, we're getting market prices for it, quickly putting that money into accounts in the name of PDVSA, and funneling cash to Venezuela ... it benefits the US tremendously."

European leaders have spent 4 years telling us we can’t appease Putin but have spent 1 year appeasing Trump

🤔

Would that be the NATO of 1949 that did not include Germany

Would that be the NATO of 1955 with West Germany as a member?

Or would that be the Nato post 1991 when the United Germany was a member ?

Or the 1991 NATO that promised not to expand “one inch” eastward toward Russia

Tough one

🤔🤔🤔
If NATO had existed in 1939 what would have happened differently?

A genuine question.

I wonder if the US would really have leapt to the defence of Poland, for example.

The EU does need to find a way of developing a solution to US hegemony targeted on them for a change

But in Von Der Leyen & Kaja Kallas it finds itself led by two desperately poor “diplomats“

They just love wild speculation fed by decades of Russo-phobia as opposed to considered well sourced peer reviewed research

"Now isn't the time. This isn't the moment. We cannot drive wealth creators away........................"
Somebody tell Rachel.
Nearly 400 millionaires and billionaires call for higher taxes on super-rich.

They know that a hostile environment is not conducive to accumulation. They can increase real wages for workers.

Govt can tax super-rich at higher rates, impose wealth tax and redistribute.

China has been dedollarising since 2017.

Problems for the EU if it dumps where does it go? The Chinese Yuan? Don’t think so - probably gold
But how much loss will it take on the sale?
EU is large but BRICS is much bigger

A big threat to US is the move a away from dollar denominated world trade

Mark Carney's well received speech claims we are seeing the end of the rules based order & transitioning to a world where power is the ultimate determinant of world order

Meanwhile, Israel that has killed numerous UN employees now demolishes UN property in Palestine

The West says nothing

Mark Carney's well received speech claims we are seeing the end of the rules based order & transitioning to a world where power is the ultimate determinant of world order

Except he knows full well that for the nations of the Global South this has always been the case - for 500 years at least

Israel that has killed numerous UN employees now demolishes UN property in Palestine and the West says nothing
'He also warned that ‘what happens today to UNRWA will happen tomorrow to any other international organisation or diplomatic mission’ anywhere in the world.'

Watching NATO politicians desperately trying to build a balancing alliance against the most powerful NATO state is interesting

Is this likely to work?

Given the nature of a military alliance with the disperate make up of 31 remaining states with a range of varying national interests?
We shall see

Looking for a far more fundamental driver of Brexit? The same names keep appearing.

The Koch Foundation, the Muller Foundation, Atlas Network, Heritage Foundation, Matthew Elliot, Bannon, Cambridge Analytica. Deeply manipulative & incestuous relationships

Russian influence pales in comparison
Carole Cadwalladr, "We cannot rely on the US for our security"

Zack Polanski, "Brexit was party sponsored by Putin because he wanted to weaken Europe"

While NATO members object to being on the receiving end of American hegemony, this is a useful reminder of the western dominance inflicted on much of the global south for decades.
The cumulative horror of current events means it's easier for things to slip from our attention. Since genocide was re-branded as 'ceasefire,' the world has moved on - no marches, only small, isolated protests. While Greenland trends, the map of Gaza has shrunk by half...
Here's the BBC publishing without comment or context a map in which Gaza is reduced by half. Note the source...

Macron says he prefers international law and not brutality

Strange comment as he was absolutely cool with international brutality for Israel and Iran

Is this Boris Johnson of which you speak?
You invited a psycho into your house to sit at the head of the table. He cusses & bellows, gropes for your daughter, makes the kids cry, demands food, eats everything while the dogs he brought with him snap at your ankles under the table. When he's done, he sets fire to the house & locks you inside.

Watching a series of NATO & EU leaders spitting out their dummies over US intimidation of Greenland

We need to stand up to bullies over Greenland

But somehow we don't need to stand up to bullies over Palestine & Iran

Watching a series of NATO & EU leaders ranting on about rules based order and the danger of a world based on might is right, knowing they lifted not one finger to help the Palestinians in Gaza

The Munich 1938 theory applies only to Putin apparently

Rules based order
So true.

“Had the world stood up to Netanyahu as he illegally annexed more and more of Palestine then we wouldn’t be talking about the U.S. colonising Canada and Greenland”

Yes the plan

We saw this plan in the Maidan 2015 also
'The unrest in Iran, which initially stemmed from currency volatility and rising inflation linked to unlawful US and European sanctions, escalated on January 8th when coordinated attacks targeted public, state and religious sites.'
