For those too young to remember the lead up to the invasion of Iraq, this is actually nothing like that. The Iraq invasion (though built on lies) was approved by Congress. This is much more like Putin's illegal invasion of Ukraine, or Germany into Poland, etc.

Weird for the world to fixate on a statement by the American president that has deep international importance
WELKER: Mr. Secretary, are you running Venezuela right now?

MARCO RUBIO: Yeah. People are fixating on that. Here's the bottom line -- we expect to see changes in Venezuela

Yes we should always remember all the great things President Biden did. The Infrastructure Bill - roads are getting paved everywhere! He got CC Companies to waive all the extra fees - banks too. He lowered the prices on medication, making sure families didn't have to choose food or RXs. Not Trump.

U.S. military spending is set to hit a record $1 trillion.

Roughly half of defense spending goes to private contractors that routinely price-gouge the government.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon has failed EIGHT straight audits.

This is the military industrial complex on steroids.

Their messaging is so fucking incoherent. Maduro was an illegitimate leader who lost in 2024, which is why we're replacing him with his VP instead of the person who won in 2024. We did this to stop fentanyl, which is why he's indicted for cocaine.

We're also occupying Venezuela via Zoom call.

Our politics would be a lot better if more Americans internalized the fact that America already had a long-running experiment with authoritarianism. It was called "The Southern United States" and democracy didn't reach the states where 30% of the population lived until 1965.
When Americans insist "it can't happen here," they’re wrong. A sociologist who studies collective memory and identity examines how the U.S. forgot its own fascist movements and what that collective amnesia means today. buff.ly/9mzgR3S
America faced domestic fascists before and buried that history
Although thousands of Americans embraced fascist ideas during the interwar years, a new study examines why the US has had little appetite to remember that past.

What the KENNEDY Center used to be…

Remember that time Aretha Franklin performed at the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors, paying tribute to Carole King, who co-wrote “You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman,” and it brought a tear to Obama’s eye and everyone to their feet? And Carole King’s reaction. Wow.

Another example of what fascism anticipated, wanted, and so far hasn't gotten: per Heritage boss Kevin Roberts' '24 book Dawn's Early Light, he wanted elite colleges not to just bend the knee but to be destroyed. Put out of business. He got a lot of capitulation! But not the victory MAGA wants.
