Man this is the first time I feel the halftime show is too short.

I’m now officially a fan of Bad Bunny.

This gotta be the best stage set in Super Bowl halftime show history.

Bill Belichick is so great that I use him in my intro class as an example to illustrate what the concept of "modernism" entails. I don't like him and he was the reason why I'm not a Pats fan, but still... His exclusion does not challenge his legacy. It challenges the legitimacy of the HOF.

Well, this was said by your saint himself.

Media's norm of being "balanced" is always a myth. NYT used to report about lynching African Americans by saying that "on one hand" lynching is evil but "on the other hand" "Negroes are prone" to rape. When Ida Wells argued against that, NYT said she was a "slanderous and nasty-minded mulattress."
How have people watched these same outlets lie every single day about Gaza, about the videos we all can see, and yet expect it to be different with respect to their own situation? Why do you think they lied to begin with? Because that was the order that came down to them: protect the empire.
The BBC coverage is absolutely terrible.

It leads on "sharply contested narratives"

It has a dramatic skew to the US government

It has posted the video but has failed to report on what it shows: it shows the US govt account is untrue

The mental health talks are sickening. At times like this, the best thing the university leaders can say is that everyone take care of themselves. Not even a call for unity or condemnation of the murder. Self-care mentality is what makes this society awful.
Message from the University of Minnesota leadership, in response to the killing of our alum Alex Pretti today.

There are people who believe that atrocities will simply end after the next election. But if the "opposition" party continue to act cowardly like this, at next election there will be ICE agents patrolling the polling stations and preventing colored people from voting, if there is an election at all.
January 25, 2026 at 1:28 AM
The shamelessness of this administration and the cowardice of the "opposition" party is just incredible.

This is courage. Looking a masked, government fascist dead in the eye, face to face, knowing full well that your life is on the line.

If elected officials had 1/10th of Alex Pretti's resolve, we would have far fewer troubles.

Alex Pretti "used to tell people off when they made sexist comments to female physicians. He bought me coffee when I had a really bad day as an intern...I laughed alongside him daily. He made a point to teach medical residents without judgement, but with a smile on his face and a joke."

Actually, that's one concern I've always had about gun control. Any control measures will inevitably start from some sort of racial profiling as "background check," after which colored people will be banned from carrying weapons while Kyle Rittenhouse will continue to walk around with guns.
Sorry, but I’m not mad at this. Are you?

Or is it, “2A for me, but not for thee”?

One basic pattern here is that DHS officials are engaging in violence simply because they are irritated at citizens protesting them. There is no plausible threat of violence here. He just wants to inflict pain, and believes there will be no penalty for doing so.
Big clash this afternoon between DHS agents and protesters in a residential street in Minneapolis, following a DHS agent hitting another vehicle. Tear gas was deployed in people’s yards and agents pepper prayed people.

My dearest mentor, Professor Joseph Fewsmith, unfortunately passed away this week. I wrote this little tribute with great pain. But no writing is enough to express my love and gratitude for Joe.

The Democrat Party is a status quo party. That's their reality and that's their vision. We have a conservative party in the Democrats and a fascist party in the Republicans. That's American politics.
The future Hakeem Jefferies wanted was Cuomo. And that tells you everything you need to know about Hakeem.

The irony that his name means wise in Arabic.

Will this Noah Smith protect the rights to criticize Charlie Kirk? If not don’t pretend to be a fan of free speech.

That’s… unsurprising.

The Trump admin’s offer to give preferential treatment to institutions that toe the party line reeks of bribery in exchange for allegiance to a partisan ideological agenda.

This is corruption.

Adherence to ‘loyalty oaths’ would usher in a new era of thought policing in American higher education.

I don't expect any fight back from the generals, even if they are ordered to kill their own citizens. Killing citizens may be against the military norm, but disobeying superior order is even more so. Also, civilian government's control over military, right?

Charlie Kirk's killing was the Reichstag fire and this is a call for Kristallnacht. This is an open and explicit call for the killing of dissidents and for establishing a military dictatorship. And there is no sign the military will disobey.

Charlie Kirk's killing was the Reichstag fire and this is a call for Kristallnacht. I know historical analogies are always inaccurate but still.
Hegseth: "A few months ago I was at the White House when President Trump announced his liberation day for America's trade policy. It was a landmark day. Well, today is another liberation day. The liberation of America's warriors ... you kill people and break things for a living."

Got my AAS panel accepted. I have a great panel on women and politics in China with scholars I like and admire. I've been hoping to have a book signed by my discussant. But I do not expect that I'll be able to travel to Vancouver next March due to the H1B visa policies of the American government.
