Is this really a "few bad apples" or a much more widespread systemic problem, in multiple denominations? Maybe the tip of the iceberg? Predators are attracted to power asymmetries, and there are few power imbalances greater than a vulnerable supplicant and the local vicar.
This sentiment was in the air after Trump's 1st term but now it's cemented as current policy. It MIGHT change if the US performed a major course correction and becomes a true progressive society & addresses the systemic problems that brought this about. That might easily take a generation.

Unchecked pardon power can be used corruptly and it's not the solution to the carceral state. It's barely a symbolic band-aid on it.
I'd argue for a strict limit on the # of pardons a president can use in any term, something in line with historic norms. There are probably other sensible limits.

IQ is a very incomplete metric. Like a fast CPU on a computer, by itself it only lets you do dumb things faster. You need good software to go along with it - in human terms, character traits like wisdom, integrity and courage. And the best part is that those things can be taught regardless of IQ.

It is also coming out of Kash Patel's FBI, which has a high motivation to "solve" the case and no compunctions about framing a scapegoat, so ... we'll see if this holds up to scrutiny.

The nature of power is that progressives only get table scraps until there's a larger sea change. Bernie spent decades doing what he could. Mamdani hasn't even taken office yet. The good news is that there's a real chance for that bigger change as people are more fed up & see through the GOP grift.
The problem with this is that they're both elected officials with real power that they refuse to use on behalf of workers, so they engage in performative solidarity instead of living up to their half of the inside-outside strategy.

I think that the notion that the "moral arc of the universe bends toward justice" is wrong. Injustice in all its forms is what we get when we allow it. Justice is what we get if we ceaselessly struggle for it. Predation is just one example of that. I think the illustration is accurate.
