I have a grand total of zero patience left for the top paid city staff in charge of community safety not being able to answer basic questions about crime trends and personnel allocations as we deliberate our budget.
Worth watching not just because it's fun. The Frey admin choosing to implement the budget priorities of their friends over their foes is not how the council's power of the purse is supposed to work.

Kudos to the editor for putting this headline and photo together.

Fundamental part of machine learning: you don’t automatically get output telling you how much each variable affected the prediction. But researchers have developed methods to extract this info.

I think calling AI/ML a “black box” is dangerous because it gives away our power to make changes.

Remember The Wall Street Journal exposé about Joe Biden having memory problems?

I hope this exposé gets just as much attention…

Kushner and Witkoff are working on BUSINESS PLANS with the Russians so American oligarchs can benefit from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Fucking ghouls.
This is one of the most important exposés published in WSJ in several years, and it derives from intercepts and analyses by foreign intelligence services studying the conduct of Trump and his inner team. It's first and foremost a wake up call to the people of the United States.
Make Money Not War: Trump’s Real Plan for Peace in Ukraine
The Kremlin pitched the White House on peace through business. To Europe’s dismay, the president and his envoy are on board.

Personally, I think it's a bad thing when people in the government post AI images without disclosing that they're AI.

Beautifully written essay. But this paragraph confused me.

Does Anand Giridharadas actually believe these stupid, shallow aholes have a shred of merit?

Or does “merito-aristocracy” mean something else?

something i'll note is that if nuzzi ran catch-and-kill ops for rfk jr and lizza knew this prior to him being appointed as HHS, and instead of telling anyone, he decided to save it for his substack long after rfk jr had made communicable disease into federal policy, that's completely fucked
