Control feels a little too close to my new job, not for any spooky paranormal reasons, but because in both cases I go around asking a lot of questions and only understanding like 10% of the answers
Just started Control and already dig it. In the first 2 minutes:
- first collectible lists, among other banned items like guns, “any objects considered iconic representations of an archetypal concept”
- a spooky janitor responds to your character’s internal monologue like she was saying it out loud
Look, I'm generally not a fan of incarcerating people, but this is only going to stop once you start putting people in jail over this instead of fines that are a slap on the wrist for a property developer wjla.com/news/local/i...
Developer fined $200,000 for illegally draining wetlands in DC
A developer in Washington, D.C., has agreed to pay $200,000 and permanently protect the remaining wetlands on its property.

Stealing priceless relics is bad but it’s simultaneously true that taking them in broad daylight from the middle of the Louvre, escaping out a window onto a freight elevator, and getting away on motorbikes racing through Paris is undeniably also really cool
Already plotting how to get my newsroom to cover the Fallout 3 remaster if it’s announced tomorrow
Alexandria's reputation as "a city of valedictorians" remains undefeated. Love this deeply geeky city.
Check your kid’s Halloween candy carefully. Someone tried to hide a Planning and Zoning Virtual Community Update in this one.
Me: okay, we’re past Dulles helping Nazis regain power, coups in Iran and Guatemala, extraordinary rendition to Trujillo, attempts to assassinate Castro, and MK Ultra. What possible evil stuff could be left for him to…

Me: oh god damnit
Me: alright, we got through Dulles reinstalling ex-Nazis into positions of power, overthrowing democratic regimes in Iran and Guatemala, and deliberately ramping up Cold War tensions and were not halfway through the book. What could possibly be-

I'm still thinking about this because every time I see a left leaning person post (with good intentions) "Bad Bunny is an AMERICAN 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲" in response to conservative nonsense, it's an insult to someone who dedicates his art to freeing his island from the shackles of U.S. colonialism
I need everyone to understand that while it's racist for conservatives to say Bad Bunny isn't American even though he's from Puerto Rico, as a supporter of Puerto Rican independence he would never sing a patriotic song at the Super Bowl to "trigger MAGA" (I have seen so many memes about this)
I can believe not recognizing the Totenkopf and thinking it’s just a skull and crossbones, but spending 20 years with it and NEVER giving that a second thought — the most generous reading of this situation — seems like a disqualifying level of stupid for higher office
Graham Planter looking at his tattoo in the mirror every morning for 20 years.
I also think a lot about documents that came out showing how big an impact the Vietnam protests had behind the scenes. Just like now, there were a lot of people dismissing it and mocking it that behind closed doors were shitting their pants
oh, also, justice for Kai-125. Great character, honestly should have just been about her.
I *did* love Halsey and embracing the pseudo-dystopian humanity stuff that's glazed over in the main games but a big part of the expanded media.
I don't like dogpiling on stuff but the Halo show is one baffling decision after another
In my friend group’s little movie club every year there’s one or two movies that just get stuck in my head for months, with me thinking back about it all the time. This year that’s been The Cremator

I would very much love for us to be fully fucking done with AI at this point
I got him from the AWLA when he was 3 (back in 2017). He wasn’t eating and was moody. I took him in as a foster and we immediately bonded. He got better faster than expected and I brought him back, but I was depressed and he immediately reverted, so the next day I went back to AWLA and adopted him.
George died two years ago this weekend and the pain of losing him has eased with time but never really gone away. We were absolutely inseparable for six years. Trying not to tear up at work thinking about him. He was incredibly loyal and smart and the best friend anyone could ask for.

I mean huge asterisks on FDR when it comes to Japanese Internment, but even accepting that massive black mark on his legacy, still easily the second best US President in history behind Lincoln
Obama I think was definitely on Kennedy's level, both in great oratory and failing to live up to that in some ways as a President. Gut reaction is putting Cory Booker and Pete Buttigieg on that same platform does them no favors, but I'll admit I'm not well acquainted with their greatest hits.
A book I’m reading got me rewatching some JFK speeches and it’s wild to look back at this and remember that the current inheritors to this oratory legacy are Joe Biden and Donald Trump

to be fair to your kid I'm an adult man and my first instinct was "maybe it's the Holmes Run Trail"
yeah, only reasonable explanation would be the Mount Vernon Trail part in Fairfax but then it's committing a different cardinal sin in calling that Alexandria
I think I like Wakanda Forever more than most other comics folks I know but it goes up like a whole percentage point in my esteem just for this
