Earlier today, OKT Partner Kevin Hille was interviewed on CBC’s Edmonton AM to discuss the implications of Bill 14, including how the proposed legislation would reshape referendum rules and remove the safeguards for Treaty and Aboriginal rights.

Very excited for my @oktlaw.bsky.social colleagues who helped secure this result by showing that Alberta separation would interfere with our clients' Treaty rights.
After the province tabled Bill 14 yesterday, which would have stopped the court proceedings on whether a proposed Alberta separation question contravenes the Constitution, the judge came out at a previously scheduled appearance today and just... dropped his decision. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Living in the closet is psychologically distressing, exhausting, painful and just generally shitty and those of us who are out know that *because we spent time in the closet and remember what it was like. It is not a bad thing to “romanticize” being able to be out and authentically yourself.

and like, no, I’m sorry. The closet is bad! The closet does not exist ~to protect queer people~. Whatever “protection” is provided by the closet is conditional upon having to constantly suppress who you are anywhere except for in private out of fear of homophobia & discrimination.

Shabbat Shalom to everyone who recognizes that the safety, freedom & thriving of Jews and Muslims are bound up together — in Israel & Palestine, across the five boroughs, and in many other beloved places.
Lander: "It's just gross, racist bigotry. Meanwhile he's running an optimistic, upbeat campaign for a NY where everybody belongs, and I feel proud as the highest-ranking Jewish elected official in NYC to be supporting somebody who would be the first Muslim mayor—what could be more NYC than that?"

It’s odd to me that “we need to restore Christian values to Europe” is not coded as anti-Semitic even though it is, quite literally, anti-semitism’s original form.

Allegedly behaving "erratically" and being "armed with a screwdriver" will never justify a police execution. Yet the IIU will almost certainly clear the killer cops of any responsibility, and both the city and province will continue to shovel money at the force.

Not sure what the point of journalists is if they're just going to reprint cop press releases and uncritically refer to police homiciding someone as a "use of force encounter".

The Special Economic Zones Act, 2025 "grants Ontario virtually unlimited power to provide any proponent or business with the ability to conduct any activity it wants, in any area of the province the government chooses, without any regulatory oversight."

This is startlingly retrograde legislation.
