My friend made me a "Lucky PhDip" for the last few weeks. All my favourite snacks gift wrapped so I couldn't see what they were. Every time I felt like I couldn't go on, I would pick a surprise treat from the pile. It turned each treat into a little ritual.

Book launch highlights: my high school English teacher showing up (!), my colleagues' daughters' handmade card, my friend making me a beaded rat in the trans flag colours, Alex's sparkly dress, and my punk friends charming my v. wholesome Aunt/Uncle. It was so overwhelming and so beautiful.
