Anyway, so until I resume and finish this project, currently the only way to heat my home involves picking up a telephone extension and yelling “Siri, turn on the FIRE.” Which is asinine, but I did this to myself.

All fun and games ’til you come home and it’s 61° inside and you’re frantically trying to remember why you wrote an automation the way you did a year in the past, and didn’t document it anywhere, stupid stupid stupid.

Last winter, I got carried away with Apple Home and devised too-clever ways to control the baseboard heaters and fireplace—China will sell you some extremely dodgy PLCs, cheap! But then I had an attack of sanity, concluded I didn’t want “IOT” and “open flame” appearing in the same paragraph, and […]

My home doesn’t have any central heating because its builder was optimistic?, I guess?, that climate change would come soon enough that we’d never have to worry about being cold in San Francisco. I think about that sometimes, resentfully.

With houseplants, almost every problem stands exactly 50–50 probability that it’s being
• underwatered
• overwatered

It seems to be similar with running injuries, where the two possible remedies are
• stop running immediately or you’ll hurt yourself
• run on it—active recovery, bro!

Choose wisely!

I don’t know which makes less sense: that when my calf started hurting, I thought it might get better if I ran 7 miles anyway, or the fact that this did, in fact, work.

It is deeply funny, to me, that two of the four “cameras” on the back of this device are not, in fact, optical sensors. One is a camera flash, and a second is a spot meter. And reading Moto’s tech specs page’s obfuscation of that would make Harry Frankfurt shriek […]

The "Weather Permitting" exhibit at the Minnesota History Center chronicles the state's famously extreme weather. I loved the panels asking recent immigrants from warm countries how they adjusted to it. How can you not love this about America, man! It's so cool that people come here from everywhere!

When I was a kid I had a recurring dogsitting gig for a neighbor and I always tried to treat the dog so well that she’d resent her owners and fall in love with me instead. I think this is what is happening with my cleaning lady and my houseplants.

In this Ohio town, it was tradition: Latin mass, eggs and bacon at Bob Evans, and then down to the old billionaire pedophile's compound to spend extended time with one of his sex trafficking victims. But now the woke mob wants to take all of that away.

Fellas, is it gay to trees?
I’m a little surprised that parks aren’t woke now. Like, lovingly maintaining fields and groves for the enjoyment of all, that’s woke as hell. RETVRN TO TRADITION; true tradmascs exercise in parking lots, like the Spartans.

A car but sometimes the left pedal makes it go faster and sometimes you have to turn the wheel twice as hard and sometimes it just bursts into flames for no reason.
[mh, exercise]

Like, there are runs that feel terrible and then I look at the stats afterwards and they were technically great, and runs where the opposite is true, and days when my heart rate is awful for no reason, none.
