WIP Wednesday Dimitri fic edition
Dimitri sucked in a cold breath through his teeth, adjusting his cloak around his shoulders. The fabric had thinned over the last couple of years, leaving it threadbare in several places, and it gave little protection against the biting Faerghus winter. He would need to do something about replacing it, and getting some warmer shoes if he could manage, too. A sigh. That would require going into a town, which was always a risk. These days, at least, he was less recognizable than he had been three years ago; his stubble, his sunken left and missing right eye, and his mane of clumping hair all helped with that. But even if he wasn’t recognized as the missing crown prince, he spent so much time looking over his shoulder that it hardly felt worth the trouble. Behind him, his father said something. The wind howled too loudly to hear, and Dimitri was too cold to turn and look. He knew what he would see, anyhow: the same decapitated figure that always protested the decisions he made in favor of keeping himself alive. Like all of the ghosts, his father wanted him to die, too. But today was a somewhat better day than the last. Today, he could ignore it.
