So the US had a huge case using high-level informants. Bukele wanted back 9 informants who could expose his govt's deals with that same gang to lower the level of violence, fueling his image as a crime-fighter. That Rubio made a deal was known. That he reneged on informants was not.

This story is extraordinary even by 2025 standards. Marco Rubio, the nation's top diplomat, made a deal with Bukele and agreed to renege on informant agreements in a years-long DOJ investigation into MS-13, totally undercutting credibility of such agreements.

Having lived in Nevada for most of my life, people I don’t think are really prepared to deal with what they’ve unleashed in betting apps. They don’t build huge casinos to give away money. Draft Kings makes it to all states and you’ll have generational issues. Sad.

I wrote this in May and little has changed. Meetings, diplomacy, press coverage. Then Trump reverts to his core stance: Russia deserves something for its aggression, and it's like totally unfair to Putin (and Trump) that Ukraine wants freedom and is able to keep Russia from taking it away.
