I can understand your sensitivity. I’m not denying your experience. My whole point is that in this thread a lot of Americans are telling non-Americans what’s important. A lot of men are doing the same to women. You seem to be doing both. It’s ok for people to have and exercise their own opinions.

It does sound a little new and exciting I must admit. 🙌

It’s not a silly story when there’s data and charts Justin. We both know that. 😂

Ha ha ha. I see I struck a nerve.

This particular person tried a gotcha on me elsewhere even after looking at my bio. Unable to see the world through their own narrow lens.

Just as there is “mansplaining” there needs to be a word that describes this behaviour by Americans who think by dint of their nationality they can explain to the rest of the world How Things Are and Should Be.
January 14, 2026 at 8:39 PM
Absolutely. Innocent women and children being killed because adults can’t get along and men want wars. Women always get told their safety and that of their children is not important because what men want is more important.

Your country is doing terrible damage to my country. And yet, my country is still able to care about other things. It’s hard for people outside of America to feel the same way about internal issues when the prevailing feeling is that you did it to yourselves, and none of this has to be this way.

Generally these hate crimes towards gay and non gender conforming people are committed by men. And they do it for the same reasons they abuse women - they see us as easy targets. I may agree or disagree with what a specific woman believes in, but I am not going to make abusing women easier for men.

At what point in the US are women allowed to voice their concerns? Right now there are women who cannot find childcare, others without access to safe abortions and yet more who get no paid leave when they have a baby. America has abdicated its responsibility to address women’s issues.

Ah yes, it’s not for everyone. I only pointed this out to suggest that homework in FI is seen as less controversial than in non-FI because of this population of parents. They chose it because they understandably wanted their kids to have an advantage, and see homework serving a similar purpose.
January 14, 2026 at 6:35 PM
Here in BC, FI is so popular admission is decided via lottery. Non-French speaking parents who make this choice for their kids often do so because they believe it is a step above regular public school where their kids may have to interact with - gasp - less academic kids than their own.

Carrie Derick was a brilliant geneticist.
Despite this, she was paid 1/3 of what her male counterparts made, was repeatedly passed over to head McGill's Botany Department and was told her professorship was just a courtesy title.
This is her story.

As a teacher (high school) I see good and bad with assigned homework. But I also see how students who do their homework have a huge edge against those who do not, so I lean more towards homework being a good thing. There is no good evidence of this effect in elementary school.

My kid never got any homework throughout elementary school except for reading activities at home.
