Remembering an interview with the creator of exploding kittens this morning. He was talking about sitting in the board room listening to the execs talk, feeling that imposter syndrome, and suddenly realizing they are just as out of their depth.

"Despite their brutal force, the masked state agents failed to break the stubborn resistance of the local population... Is what happened in the streets of Minneapolis merely a random episode—or a turning point in the struggle for American democracy?"
The Trumpists will continue to escalate. But in Minneapolis, we can see the limits of MAGA’s assault.

Trump’s authoritarian desires are limitless. But his ability to impose them on America is not.

My new piece for @zeit.de - and some thoughts, since it is in German (gift link):
US-Regierung: Wie der Widerstand gegen Maga eine Chance hat
Der Minneapolis-Moment offenbart die Schwächen der Trumpisten. Und er zeigt, wo der Widerstand gegen den US-Präsidenten in Zukunft erfolgreich ansetzen kann.

A Minnesota woman observing ICE agents in her car was cornered on one-way streets. An agent approached, called her by name—citing facial recognition. Days later, her Global Entry and TSA privileges were revoked, with no explanation.

If I was a legitimate government trying to prove we weren't the fascist regime our opponents claim, I would try a lot harder not to take all my advice directly from the fascist dictator handbook.
feds have arrested jamael lundy alongside journalists georgia fort and don lemon for the protest at a st. paul church led by an ICE agent

lundy is currently running for state senate district 65 in minnesota. his wife is anika bowie, a st. paul city councilmember

Miss Frizzle is definitely a fellow member of the AuDHD community. Zero interest in social norms, a collection of special interests, and an attention span so short she leaves the kids in dangerous situations to go chase some unrelated randomness in the middle of a field trip.

Pretty sure atomic weight is just an artifact of the programmer's unique ID's for the elements in the database. The AI coding assistant just happened to misunderstand and now we live in a universe with black holes.

hey @schumer.senate.gov I have an idea.

Liam, age 5, is sick as shit in Texas prison right now. WHAT IF one of your demands was "they don't actually get to detain anyone here legally"? Like Liam's dad.

THAT WOULD BE A REALLY CORRECT DEMAND. bsky.app/profile/croc...
Today, Rep. Castro and I visited precious Liam and his father, Adrian, at the Dilley Detention Center.

My heart absolutely breaks for Liam, his family, and every person being wrongfully detained.

After the Boston Massacre, the soldiers responsible were arrested and received fair trials. King George recalled the regiment to England, and then American leaders were like “good, that was enough, we’ll remain your loyal subjects forever…” wait, that’s not right…

What if we are in a Matrix situation, but instead of machines using people as batteries, it was bacteria who built people as self sustaining homes? Seems awfully convenient how we just happen to need complex microbiomes to survive. 🤔

It's okay if this is hard for you, even if it's easy for someone else. It *is* important, but if RSD, ADHD, or anything else makes this too difficult, don't give up, there are hundreds of other ways to provide support.
I call my senators / congresswoman often.
It's my duty, and it's not difficult *at all*. What's actually difficult about it is pushing through my resentment.
These are folks I pay *really well* to be decent.
And I resent having to PLEAD with them to do be decent.
It makes me feel crazy.

A reminder to the news media: “conflicting accounts” is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.

End the Killings: States Must Unite to Stop Lawless ICE Operations
Text SIGN PQZSKS to 50409 — On January 24, 2026, federal immigration agents shot and killed Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse and U.S. citizen, on a public street in Minneapolis. Multiple verified videos show Pretti holding a phone, not a weapon, as agents pepper-sprayed him, forced him to the ground, disarmed him, and then fired repeatedly into his body. This killing followed another fatal shooting by federal agents in Minneapolis just weeks earlier. Together, these deaths represent a terrifying escalation: heavily armed federal agents operating inside American cities with little regard for civilian safety, constitutional rights, or local authority. State and local officials in Minnesota have condemned these actions. Governors and mayors have warned that federal enforcement teams are acting with impunity, obstructing state investigations, and refusing to cooperate with lawful oversight. This is not law enforcement—it is a breakdown of accountability. While immigration enforcement is a federal responsibility, states are not required to accept federal actions that endanger residents, undermine public trust, or interfere with state law enforcement and judicial processes. State governments retain significant power over cooperation, access, and authorization within their borders. I urge you, as a state legislator, to act immediately and in coordination with lawmakers across the country to form a unified response. Specifically, I ask that you: • Join with other states in formally opposing the continued deployment of ICE and related federal enforcement operations that have resulted in civilian deaths. • Adopt or support resolutions asserting state authority over cooperation with federal agents and rejecting operations that violate constitutional norms or public safety. • Protect the right of residents to record law enforcement activity in public spaces without fear of violence or retaliation. • Call on your governor to work with other governors—across party lines—to demand the withdrawal of ICE from states where its presence has led to bloodshed. Governor JB Pritzker has already called on governors and legislatures nationwide to stand together against what he described as lawlessness inflicted on the states. That call should not stand alone. When federal power is abused, the Constitution does not demand silence—it demands action. No American should be killed for filming law enforcement or helping another person off the ground. No state should be forced to tolerate federal agents who operate above the law. Unity among the states is not only justified—it is necessary. Please act now to help stop the killings and restore accountability.
