On a side note, here is Sting's weirdest music video (and that's apart from his hair cut.) Originally hated the dad "baby sitting" his kids, but now see it as his thoughts and sadness on society's expectations of his situation. Another in the "Happy Beat, F'ed Lyrics" genre.

The official (and only) version of Roxanne listed on their YT channel for those interested.

It's weird that The Police memory holed this version off their official YouTube channel, especially since this was the first Police music video for most older fans. Supposedly they did a video for "So Lonely" using the same set/clothes, but I haven't found that one yet.

UPDATE!
(i've completely forgotten what that idea was. i should have written it down. number 358,028 in a series of forgotten ideas.)

Totally get the path not taken vibes, but this was a fantastic accomplishment (in your early f'ing 20s) that helped start a great career. I hope the re-release brings back good memories and rekindles friendships from that time, and that the career you've had since then continues to flourish.

I expected to see the View Askew cast members, but the actors from Broken Lizard were a complete surprise and you could really see the beginnings of their careers as well as Michael Ian Black's in this film.

Just caught it on Tubi, wasn't familiar before reading about it here. It's a fun time that finds its groove about a third of the way in, and it's a great snapshot of the 90s that I probably won't be showing to my kids anytime soon.

Evil is the cigarette smoke of the current generation, got them aging faster than Wilford Brimley.

If we somehow survive this mess, I think the National Guard will need to be recreated under a different name and structure that focuses more on emergencies and less as an Armed Forces add-on.
bearcat-catbear.bsky.social
I think it's starting to be forgotten that joining the National Guard was originally a commitment to to serve in unforeseen emergencies, almost always natural disasters. You might get called up every second or third hurricane season. The second Gulf War changed all that and now... now, what is this?

How the national guard call-ups are screwing students who joined in hopes of.l being able to afford college.

Did you realize there are people who will tall you that crawling into a hole, curling up in a ball, and waiting for the world to go away is not the best solution to all your problems?

Watch out for those people -- they're probably trying to steal your hole.

Sorry for your loss. You might want to lean into it like listening to one ear worm (super catchy song) to get rid of another one in your head. When my mom died I listened to 70s and 80s pop country for awhile and that seemed to help. I hope your memories and those around you provide some comfort.

Exactly right. AI CEOs should have begged Congress to regulate AI in a way that provided real consequences to spreading disinformation and fueling hatred with it. I don't think AI recovers from the taint of the vast amount of slop and misuse it's put into the world without restraint.

Would it kill them to put the topic and perhaps a short description at the bottom of the video for the first 15 seconds to see if it's worth my time?

When conservatives complain that the young ones are looking to socialism for solutions, this should be Exhibit A on why. Every EA gamer that sees their platform steeply decline in the next couple of years is going to ask why it's happening, and the answer will be End Stage Capitalism.

this business model should be flatly illegal

taking on a bunch of debt to buy a company and then burning the company to the ground to service that debt while paying yourselves huge fees is a purely destructive practice that has never once had a positive outcome

ban it completely
jasonschreier.bsky.social
It’s official: EA is going private.

The leveraged buyout will be financed by a staggering $20 billion of debt, which likely means some *aggressive* cost cutting is ahead for EA in the coming months and years.

The IEP planning and special education programs currently under attack by conservatives are a hell of a lot more effective in helping kids than the Tylenol distraction sh#tshow they're putting on.

The worse part is they know it's a distraction. Look over here while we demolish education!
