I just learned about A La Ronde, a fascinating building in Devon, UK and its architects. Jane and Mary Parminter who were in many ways, trailblazers. I admit I am a sucker for Byzantine architecture so I am biased but I do find this building charming.

This is an amazing thread that sent me to a weird path, thinking this is another instance of abusing the commons by current business practice. The other example that came to mind, immediately, was the rent a scooter model where you just abandon the scooter anywhere in the public space...
I will add the following: our students lack the research skills required to audit an LLM essay for errors. They don’t arrive on campus with these skills; we teach it to them over four long years. So throwing freshmen in the deep end and saying “swim your way to a shore of rectitude” is folly.

As we are wrapping up #PancitoMerge to release, I got a couple asks about doing bundles and it made me be aware of that whole area… I don't really see it as a bad thing to have many so, if your game is similar to us and you want to bundle, please reach out!

The irony here is that academics don’t just write the articles for free—we also referee and edit for them for free. Something is deeply broken.

“New Zealand's eight universities spent $30-million a year on journal licences and about half of that sum went to Elsevier.

One New Zealand university told its staff all universities in New Zealand and Australia would "lose some degree of access" to the publisher's 1600 titles from the start of next year.

It is my position that many issues around NLP interfaces were thoroughly understood between the arrival of ELIZA and the mid 90s and we would all benefit of reading more the old papers.
I've been trying to express exactly this discomfort with modern interface design and especially LLM design and this lady nailed it back in *1993*

The U.S. may already be cooked, but the rest of the world still has time to shift toward sovereign platforms.

Entendemos que la crisis de inseguridad te hace pensar que el Estado necesita más poderes para resolverla. Esa es precisamente la trampa. Más que poderes necesita controles para entonces profesionalizarse. Ya no caigas en la trampa del populismo punitivo.

Something crazy about the US and international copyright enforcement regime is that they consistently criminalize digital archiving when it is done for pro-social reasons, but consistently protect the reuse of archived materials by other parties when it is for commercial reasons
