It's easier to dodge them here but they exist. I had to block a Korean account that started putting pro T**mp cartoons in my replies.

"KDrAmas arE GEtting too WeSTeRNIzEd" 🙄

My husband informed me that the original account is a Korean Chr1st1an conservative which is just 🤌

This is absolutely real, I had to block Tr**p supporters on Threads who were following me as Kdrama fans. There's a no-insignificant number of fans who love Kdramas because they are religious c*ns*rvatives who want "clean" content. ick ick ick

Being a fascist supporting K-pop fan with a Frederick Douglass profile pic is a wild combo (gotta be rage bait lmfao) but something about the Korea-boo part might actually make sense cuz K-pop/Kdrama communities be regressive as FUCK.

This was the first review I could find in Japanese that talks about the patriarchal critique that's such an important part of Learning to Love. It's fascinating that it's written by a man. The comments from fans mostly focused on Raul (lol)

Learning to Love peeps: I found a review that digs into the patriarchal critique embedded in the drama. Very worth reading #jdrama

Beautiful gem 💎 about learning to love, and how feeling loved helps getting braver first for the beloved one & in the end for yourself, learning to step up & believe in yourself ❤️
I missed ep12 but they did great nevertheless! Beautiful written, poetic visuals, acting 👌

I'm completely sure that the owner is his father but not sure about the mom. His reaction to seeing her at the club was pretty suspicious though.

I don't know much but one of the big changes is they are no longer allowed to advertise the top earners in the club. It's to prevent customers from going into debt to try to get their hosts to become #1, especially because some women get pressured into sex work to pay for their hosts.
Kabukicho Host Billboards Get Censored Under New Law
Under a new law that targets exploitative practices, Kabukicho's famous host billboards are being forced to self-censor.

I just added that to my watchlist! It looks so interesting.

For example, Kdramas aren't as popular with the home audience as you'd think, they prefer variety shows and Western shows. So when people say Kdramas are being westernized, I think it's that they are changing to accommodate changing tastes at home.
daebakpodcast.bsky.social
The two dramas I've watched skirt censorship in different ways, they are definitely doing a social critique but it's so subtextual that they're getting away with it. I assume that will continue.

The westernization thing is complex because what global audiences want to watch is changing everywhere

Meanwhile, my son and I went to Japan because he loves Nintendo and wanted to go so I said sure 😅 We've been twice, it's such a fantastic place to be a tourist.

It's pretty crazy when I think about it, especially because I went to India solo and left hubby and my son back home because they weren't interested in traveling with me. It was an amazing adventure, so glad I got to do that.

I got interested in Linmon because I've watched two dramas they produced, a Dream Within a Dream and Journey to Love, and I was struck by how they both have complex female characters and grapple with moral issues like the obligations of leaders towards the people they're responsible for #cdrama

Went to India for 3 weeks and met with people I knew through Twitter, started a #kdrama podcast, made a huge number of friends who have become IRL friends. Oh and got a whole career out of it because I'm a communications consultant.

I was telling my friend about a Kdrama I was watching and a lady at the next table turned around and was like "I was just watching that!" and joined our conversation for awhile, and I wish more people would do that.

If you've followed my journey w/the jdrama #LearningtoLove, you know I was a bit obsessed, but I wasn't the only one. This unconventional romance demanded commentary & the wait for the 1-a-week 45-min ep nearly did people in. The show is best binged, and all eps are out now.
