open.spotify.com/playlist/3U2... here's my Christmas music playlist which includes some classics and some oddities. What am I missing? I also love songs that are just midwinter songs. The vibe is that it is dark almost all day in December in Norway.

It's been over a week with illness of varying degrees in our house and I am well and truly miserable. We both are. Just can't shake this bugger.

My tuppence worth, if it's worth tuppence any more, is that actually it is a bad idea to re/dename Herzog Park. There are very few signs of Ireland's Jewish history. As someone who has been involved for years in trying to get a blue plaque up to the Waterford community–something that's on pause–

I learned about this from the excellent book The World the Plague made. There's a whole bit on how precisely this fact complicates ideas of assumed plague transmission!
Fun fact: The oldest rat bone ever found in Iceland only dates back to the 17th century.

My commute is almost exactly the length of Vikingur Olafsson's recordings of the Goldberg Variations.

I have made the horrible horrible discovery of two Norwegian translations of Fairytale of New York. One is at least vaguely based on the original and retains the paired voices though the lyrics are quite different and its generally quite schmaltzy

The forelegs are way too short for a brachiosaurus, also the neck is too short for most sauropods. The proportions and spinal plates do match the traditional stegasauridae profile pretty well, except for its unfortunate lack of the trademark thagomizer.

Maybe a wuerhosaurus that's all clubbed out.

Assume that the Ireland game in Prague is going to be played at either the Sparta or Slavia ground but surely it'll be Sparta's.

Here he is, twice, in Fra Emmanuele da Como’s 1672 fresco series in the Aula Maxima.

Seeing Once was a weird reminder of how distant and how near in the past 2006 was. Also, the camera work is so shaky at times, it's almost comical 😂
Has the fun task next week of giving an introduction to a film club screening of "Once" to a Norwegian audience!

On the one hand it is hideous and weird that my child's barnehage updates us about her day through an app, on the other, I am jealous that she started an afternoon nap 20mins ago.
