#NBPoli memory; it was only 4 years ago that Higgs cancelled Thanksgiving but they told everyone you could go to a restaurant to eat with people but you couldn’t have them at your house. Absolutely infuriating. NB could have cleaned the air; instead launched snitch line.

And in NB it’s divided by language lines. Patients and workers involved in the francophone system have never had required masks brought back after @vitalitenb.bsky.social dropped them. How is this right? I know of people who caught covid in the French hospitals and died due to HAI covid. 💔

Maybe explains why in NB we have masking only in @horizonhealthnb.bsky.social facilities but NOT in @vitalitenb.bsky.social .

This is not quite accurate.
In NB, only facilities under the anglophone regional health authority, @horizonhealthnb.bsky.social reinstated masking.
The francophone regional health authority, @vitalitenb.bsky.social has not reinstated masking, had not done so last year either...

NB has not reinstated masking in healthcare, only @horizonhealthnb.bsky.social has in its facilities. But the other regional health authority, the francophone one, Vitalité has not, which is very unfortunate for francophones.

NS is also home to one of the only clinical trials exploring UVC for infection prevention. Make it make sense. Dr. Rockwood is able to write in his trial protocol in 2021 about aerosols but NS health in late 2025 intentionally serves droplet dogma. 2/2 clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT050...

It is confirmed that Israel mistreated and tried to harm Greta Thunberg after she was captured, including abuse & forcing her to kiss the Israeli flag while taking pictures of her. Thanks to Swedens swift response she was successfully removed from Israel; taken back to safety with no further harm.

It's been one year since we opened Dunn House - Canada's first social medicine housing initiative. And this has been family over the past year.
It still feels unreal sometimes. What started as a "radical" idea - that health begins with home - became a place where people who were living inside and out of hospitals, shelters, or on the street could finally exhale.
A year later, the preliminary data is staggering. Emergency Department visits for the tenants have plunged by over 50%. And days spent in hospital have similarly plummeted by nearly 80%.
But the real drive for change, I hope, is how human dignity and health economics are completely aligned.
The first story is from Victoria Gibson at the Toronto Star - about Jason Miles, a man whose addiction and homelessness cost more than $260,000 through ER visits, shelters, and jail stays. Not because he wanted that path, but because there wasn't another one.
The second is from Liam Casey in the CBC, about our University Health Network teams and community partners deciding to try something different and center those patients that been sidelined in the health system. The cost calculus is clear when it can be over $50k per month in hospital, $15k in provincial jail and $4k for supportive housing.
I believe both these stories show the cost of crisis - and the return on compassion.
It's still early, and there's a lot more to do across the province. But one year in, I'm certain of this more than ever:
housing is healthcare. compassion saves lives.
and dignity has to be designed into the system - not left to Chance.
