Today's appearance of a species of fool who can tell Trumpism is fascist but think the status quo ante of an all-powerful state surveillance apparatus was just fine as long as the right people were in charge of it is most extraordinarily repulsive

This is why I read and support Liberal Currents; a full throated defense of science, human rights (which include trans rights), and the courage to believe those things are worth fighting for.

The Atlantic? Busy platforming a kook anti-vaxxer under the guise of both-sides-ism.
Liberal Currents will never hand it to a man likely to kill untold number of children with his anti-vaccine anti-science crank activism from HHS. We will never throw trans people under the bus to score political points. Help elevate our voice to compete with The Atlantic’s gofund.me/bc470b67b

William Calley did 3 years house arrest for the My Lai massacre, Obama bombed wedding after wedding. The rest of the world knows what's going to happen to Hegseth; nothing.
To be explicit, we executed a German U-Boat commander who said he had to sink lifesaving gear / “inadvertently” kill survivors because it might give away his position, thereby potentially resulting in the loss of his submarine.

We executed multiple members of that crew.
Heinz-Wilhelm Eck might have something to say about this one.

I don't buy into any of the AGI x-risk stuff myself, but for those that do, having an AI controlled by someone who believes that empathy is a trait that must be extinguished seems like a pretty big problem

The contention of this article doesn't make sense

If there's a problem with fertilizer contamination, then it's (literally) upstream of Amazon. Reuse of the DC cooling water doesn't make this problem worse, as that water was always going to go somewhere.
Everyone knows data centers use a ton of water.

What hardly anyone knows: they can poison the water that remains.

And in eastern Oregon, Amazon is doing exactly that.
AI’s water problem is worse than we thought
A new investigation reveals how Amazon is amplifying Oregon’s nitrate pollution crisis.

Gender-affirming care saves lives
1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

Transgender care saves lives.
Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Finds Trans Youth Care Lowers Suicidality, Few Detransition
The groundbreaking study found that suicidality dropped for transgender youth receiving hormone therapy by nearly 70%, with only 7 patients of 432 discontinuing treatment.
