the version of "why the sudden sharp bend in career path circa 2012" that I tell in interviews is that I was tired of having toddlers squish crackers into my hair so instead I decided to work with faculty, who can be equally difficult to negotiate with but don't do the thing with the crackers.

And also was like "hey, I know your Retaining Wall Guy, he's my buddy, I'll say hi for you," so I told him to tell Wall Guy next year might be the year we repour my back steps.
