From the first year of my studies to my current, final modules, my utter loathing of self-assessment tasks remains undiluted

I've never understood the people who complain about traffic regulation in London. One of my favourite things about London is how easy it is to get around WITHOUT a car

Glad Lestodon got a spotlight. My absolute favourite sloth, basically a brick with feet

Ozzy's passing has ignited the spark of wanting to play music, so I've had a fun evening of playing classic Sabbath & Dio riffs. Nice to see the old power chord divets coming back into my fingertips

Oh cool, now we can add cosying up to oppressive, human-rights violating regimes to the list of black marks against Colossal that won't at all stop people believing their BS

I've had a wide variety of pets over the years including reptiles, rodents, cats, birds & fish both fresh & saltwater, & I honestly believe dogs (of any breed) are the most demanding, time consuming & high maintenance of all. It's astonishing to me that people consider them the 'default' pet

No matter how much you hate AI, you probably don’t hate it as much as Werner Herzog or Hayao Miyazaki and I think their hatred is beautiful

“I have seen movies, short films, completely created by artificial intelligence,” Herzog said. “Story and acting and everything, they look completely dead. There are stories, but they have no soul. They are empty and soulless.”

Get their ass, Werner.

Palaeo folks! What's the most comprehensive, convenient source online for global temperatures & temperature proxy over time data for use in studies? Not looking for graphs, just want values & dates I can plug into a spreadsheet

And that's how you integrate digital elements into an exhibition. Part of the temporary "China's Dinosaur World" at the Shanghai Natural History Museum, China. Closing this November.

Much to my surprise, Frontier Development invited me to be among the first people to play Jurassic World Evolution 3!
Here's a little highlight reel of what I & the other attendees got up to, as well as some gameplay footage showing off the new features

Hands on with Jurassic World Evolution 3!

Pretty shameless clickbait headline. The article itself is about unlicensed private ownership of exotic animals, but of course that's not as interesting as making people scared that there are Cobras crawling around Oxford
A link to a news article from the Oxford Mail. The headline reads 'Dangerous animals living in Oxfordshire including world's most venomous snake'. The link is accompanied by a photograph of a cobra

The description says 'foal'. I thought it was a giant tardigrate parasitising the cat

Sometimes I wonder why neurotypical people get to have the 'neurotypical' label when they're the ones playing mental gymnastics with themselves.
Just say what you mean!

When I was a kid it was just a known thing that the giant squid had never been captured on film. Now we're spoiled for choice. What a time to be alive
rebeccarhelm.bsky.social
I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA

People say "autism never used to exist" and then you go to the Natural History Museum and the exhibit has a caption like "Born in 1762, The Revd [name] was famously irascible, steadfast in his routine, and dedicated his life to collecting 25,000 rare beetle specimens".
rolandmcs.bsky.social
Fundamentally, the headbanging Right doesn't believe Autism (or ADHD) exists. Or in so far as it does exist, a human conspiracy has created it.

We're back to their core outlook that 'It didn't exist back in the good old days so can't exist now.'

'It must just be some modern woke Marxist nonsense'.

Friends & colleagues have come from overseas, built lives, careers, businesses & families thanks to ILR, now Farage & his goons want to strip it away. All the talk of "we don't mind immigrants who come through legal routes & pay their taxes" was never true. It's pure, shameless xenophobia

If this plan is implemented, it will cripple British universities and health care, and tear apart families.

All 'skilled' immigrants will require £60k salary & cannot use NHS. Permanent residence will be scrapped entirely. Citizenship made insanely hard.

This is horrifying - but not in the least surprising. If this goes ahead, if Reform get into power, that... will be it for me. I lose my home, my healthcare, my career, all of it. I would be torn from my partner, my pets, my friends. And I'm not sure how I would go on.

Tbf, more of any animals would be nice.
When we moved into our current house we regularly saw & heard foxes, bats & owls. 5 years of extra construction going up & now there's no sign of them

It's like the COVID lockdown Christmas parties that brought down Boris Johnson.
Like yeah, it's great that he was finally under scrutiny, but after everything else he did!? Took em long enough
