Great gift for your kids' science teachers!
For example you could give my first book to everyone you know, no need to worry about coming up with gift ideas anymore

If someone says "don't follow illegal orders" and you claim they're encouraging soldiers to disobey orders they're being given, it's an admission you're giving them illegal orders.

What this shows yet again is that DHS's "official version" of events simply shouldn't be believed without verification. In video after video, claims made by DHS officers and DHS itself were shown not to have occurred at all — or to have occurred in a substantially different way than first described.

My kid brother went to his first ever protest because of the corruption; I hang out with a lifelong-GOP geriatric crowd who are almost all now anti-Trump because of the corruption (and the cruelty).

Drawing attention to specific corruption and opposing it is the way forward.
Voters don’t think in left-right terms like political junkies—many Americans basically think politicians are corrupt and ineffective, leading them to keep ejecting whichever party briefly has control in Washington.

Continually trying to be more moderate is a dead end for Democrats. trib.al/SbwYw5g

The Epstein stuff reveals that our elites are so insulated and powerful that they can do anything, but it doesn’t stop with this abuse. That same mindset is what leads to these terrible wars, government that leaves people to starve and die unnecessary deaths.

It’s a systemic failure.

Visualizing Musk's absurd Tesla pay package:

"On average, Musk will make $3 billion more per year than the 1.4 million elementary school teachers in the U.S. combined."
Elon Musk is set to make more than every U.S. elementary teacher combined

The impossibility of giving directions when you don't navigate the same way:

"It's on the NW corner of the intersection." - "is that on my left or right?" - "depends, which direction are you facing?" - "I'm coming on Main St" - "going south or north?" - "just tell me if it's left or right" - 😬

On a tangent, thinking of the place (law firm?) that was surprised when they took a woman applicant to their standard interview place and discovered it was restricted to men-only. They'd never noticed the absence of women or considered hiring one.
If you are not in academia, you might not know this, but job interviews used to be held at conferences IN HOTEL ROOMS. Women candidates in a hotel room alone with often all-male committees. People sitting on beds! The horror stories I've heard.
I thing I sometimes thing about is that university departments were still doing job interviews in hotel rooms in the mid aughts

The German word for a wild turkey is "Truthahn", which loosely translates to "threatening hen". I think that speaks to how well early Germans took to arriving in the New World.

Remember, folks: you're a "kid" if you're a Republican man in your 30s making Nazi jokes, but if you're a 15 year old girl who looks even younger, or a pregnant 10 year old, you're old enough to consent or be a parent.
Megyn Kelly is not just problematic in her defense of Trump and Epstein…she is emblematic of the decline in humanity infesting the Republican Party. The double standard for the definition of a child. The excuses…the rot at the center of the GOP.

Also, at least 20 years ago, the government *funded* area studies programs, in the hopes grant recipients (like me!) would go into government work focused on those regions.

Back when we weren't so isolationist, I suppose.
It is worth saying that putting “Africana studies” in scare quotes as if it’s a ridiculous concept is not a political argument. It’s just racism. “Africa is not worthy of a major” is the implication. Yeah dude you’re just racist. (From Gerard Baker at the WSJ today)

Democrats have grown negative on capitalism and positive on socialism, while Mamdani has quickly become a well-known name in national politics.

So it can obviously be used. The Trump administration is contradicting its own guidance (that it has since deleted) in order to not deliver SNAP benefits because it doesn't want to deliver SNAP benefits. This is the same administration that just enacted the largest cuts to SNAP in history in July.

"Every man goes through a Nazi phase", "every guy would be charged with sexual assault under that definition" -- either people who say those things merit a good look into their past, or, if they're correct, men are all with no exception abusive racists and shouldn't be allowed in public.

When people glorify ‘Tough On Crime’ they are just saying that they are gleefully punitive & nothing more.

Being tough on crime isn’t the same as addressing crime. We know that the largest predictor for reducing crime is addressing need.

Reducing benefits increases crime, endangering everyone.
With millions at risk of losing SNAP in the coming days, a reminder: hunger doesn't happen in isolation. When food assistance disappears, families use rent money to eat. Then come evictions and homelessness.

Housing, food, healthcare—it's all connected. Cut one thread and the whole thing unravels.
