It’s important to remember that Donald Trump doesn’t like even the people around him that praise him 24/7z The only people he ever seemed to genuinely like were Roy Cohn and Jeffrey Epstein
I am begging America to not be stupid enough to embrace a racist and an antisemite because Donald Trump thinks she's a meanie. Just grab some popcorn and watch the Nazis fight.

the absolute best case scenario is trump becomes so unpopular that his own party loses faith in his ability to maintain governing power regardless of election rigging, troop deployment, etc, in which case they will cut him loose and make all that stuff even harder for him to pull off.

Honestly, the default position of everyone ought to be that Trump is hiding some really horrific acts. No other rational reason to explain this bizarre behavior other than he fears it would end his presidency.
Marjorie Taylor Greene on Trump: “It’s astonishing really how hard he’s fighting to stop the Epstein files from coming out that he actually goes to this level.”

Whatever Trump is desperately covering up about Epstein, it’s clearly so bad that he thinks it could destroy him

Greene’s doing this for the same reason she was pandering to brainworms years ahead of when it became the GOP platform. She’s cynical but not actually stupid, and better than most at getting ahead of the curve. Knowing which way the wind is blowing. She’s placing her bets now for the post-Trump era.

After the November 2021 elections Biden's people scrambled to find ways to reduce prices arising from a post-pandemic supply shock that implicated complex multinational economic relationships. Meanwhile Trump gets to switch off the RAISE PRICES switch that he flicked on in April.

Breaking news: Newly released documents from Jeffrey Epstein’s estate show that he appeared to be texting a member of Congress during a congressional hearing investigating Donald Trump, and that those texts may have influenced the lawmaker’s questions.

the astonishing thing about this wave of denialism is that we have more or less decidedly hit the point where clean energy is the *cheaper* option by some distance
I'm kind of baffled how the "moderates" have apparently all decided to turn against climate policy at once, just as China reaches green electrostate liftoff mode. I thought these people were all about National Greatness and making Hard Choices

"Woke" is an AAVE term with a specific function that was deliberately hijacked by right wingers to spoil that function, and far too many of us let them do it and even enabled it
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

I suspect a lot of the powerful people in Epstein's orbit who weren't direct participants in his crimes viewed his behavior through a Hugh Hefner kind of frame. Which, of course, is still dehumanizing and as we've learned, pretty horrific, but at the time, I'm guessing that's how they rationalized.

the shamelessness emerges in part out of a DC/NY journalistic culture in which people are rarely fucking the people they *cover* but are often fucking *their staff.*.
Other examples exist but I do think Nuzzi is a prime candidate for the *media* figure who most exemplifies the total lack of shame in American elite culture circa 2025
Scoop: Olivia Nuzzi has written a book during her year in exile, in which she is set to in part address her relationship with RFK Jr. Details in @status.news: www.status.news/p/olivia-nuz...

One of the more upsetting things in this is that he wasn't blackmailing them: These men were part of this and protecting him not out of obligation or even particularly out of access, but out of solidarity.
Lots of people say: that’s because he’s blackmailing them, but I don’t think he’s blackmailing Kathy Ruemmler! I don’t think that’s what explains it.
