In NYC, 8th graders apply to specialized public high schools for which they aren’t zoned, & the competition in Queens is fierce. Thankfully, Miss Kim is applying to a school known for its college prep & debate, rather than a student body full of socially awkward children of tiger/helicopter parents.

I realized 11B sergeants without a degree didn’t have many transferable skills, but bar fighting skills honed as a young infantry soldier served me well as a bouncer. I lied my way into a bartender position (fake it til you make it), then found myself in fine dining a year later.
