I think our politics is dysfunctional, so I am just not sure it does respond. I truly believe that a good number of GOP members genuinely don’t care and actually hate the poor. The question will be if this makes Dems cave. Just not sure how it plays out.

I am genuinely not sure this won’t go on for four months. GOP is convinced this is a winning issue and Dems can’t really agree to anything if they don’t get something. Besides, the GOP legit doesn’t care. Many of them want SNAP to die anyway.

Wait, we haven’t even gotten to the primary yet, FFS. It is perfectly reasonable to say you aren’t going to vote for Newsom at this point. I won’t either. If despite my vote he becomes the nominee, then I probably will. But I hope that doesn’t happen. I hope a much better candidate wins the primary.

No, that’s the thing. The law isn’t actually giving them the powers they are claiming in many cases. Yes, the law does have way too much wiggle room in a lot of areas where this admin is taking advantage of, but this isn’t one of those. This is plainly illegal.

Notice no lawyers were consulted. There is no OLC opinion cited to support it. It’s just Trump (and probably Miller) talking out of their ass. Notice that one of the first thing Hegseth did was fire all the JAGs or each service. They don’t want lawyers to tell them what the law says.

It is incredibly important to keep pointing out the illegal things this admin is doing. It is the way we keep sight of what the rule of law means and how this admin (and Republicans in Congress, etc.) are undermining it. That helps politically. But it will also help when they are gone in rebuilding.
