the other day when i said "fuck people saying ai is here to stay, being trans is here to stay, [something something] billionaires" i should be clear that the transphobic, white nationalist, disinformation campaigns and forcing deeply broken/harmful tech on everyone is all coming from one source

Many historians of Rome identify Roman generals becoming the personal sources of payment for their armies as a key step in the downfall of the Republic, since it personalized military authority and freed armies to fight for their immediate leader, who paid them, instead of for the Republic

...I have never heard of a baseball fan who didn't want to visit other parks before! Some of my best sports memories have been games at Milwaukee, Wrigley, Denver and San Diego--I love Coors and Petco! Not to mention the awesome A's/White Sox game we went to a while back.

“Jewell becomes the first player in WNBA history to have a perfect 10-0 record in the WNBA Finals. She has now won her 3rd championship. She got everything she could have ever wanted with her trade request. But this ultimately looks like a deal that benefited all three teams involved in the trade.”

"well what are the Democrats supposed to do" I don't know! They're supposed to know! I'm not the one who sought and obtained a political position that would require me to know what to do when the ruling party attempts to install the President as a dictator!

I really appreciated your comment in your thread yesterday about Chicago Catholicism. Growing up in Chicago and going to Catholic school in the 80s, while we definitely got the anti-abortion messaging, we also got the "seamless garment" language as well, and it seemed to be coming from Bernadin.

second of all, if you’re an American Catholic your family were OBVIOUSLY immigrants too, like you’ve been here five minutes please be so serious

MAGA Catholics are so gross to me. first off, a LOT of these immigrants are Catholic, and the catechism is EXTREMELY CLEAR on the church being one united global body. those people are your family. your loyalty should be to them and not the president!

absolutely and I think that’s really important! they’re denied communion in there, which is actually incredibly unusual, so this is the next best way to bring the Eucharist to them. maybe it gave some small degree of reassurance to some very scared people that they aren’t forgotten

Would it also be a comfort to the Catholic folks who are trapped in the ICE facility? Sort of a "We brought Jesus with us and even though He was turned away, He is here for you"?

when we talk about political theatre sometimes being Good, Actually™️, this is what we mean. the trads are the reason Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament came back in fashion in the youth ministry world (where I learned about it). they take it REALLY seriously. this priest weaponized that so adroitly

the monstrance doesn’t leave the church very often and is handled with incredible reverence and care. kid altar servers are NOT allowed to touch it, I vividly recall. usually only the priest carries it out and puts it back. if a priest is holding a monstrance he is saying Jesus is PHYSICALLY here

to Catholics, the monstrance is considered the literal presence of Christ. outside of Mass it’s often used for what’s called Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, which is anything from sitting in silence to a whole prayer service with readings and music, with the monstrance on the altar

if you’re not Catholic, let me real quick tell you about the breathtaking audacity of bringing the monstrance with him

a monstrance is a big bedazzled gold ornament with a round glass window in the middle where you put a consecrated wafer, usually the bigger ceremonial one and not the bite-size

I keep watching Mamdani's video in disbelief of how good it is... centering BIPOC trans street activism, SOPHIE soundtrack, pivoting to supporting funds for trans housing and healthcare...
madycast.com
Mamdani promises to deploy *hundreds* if lawyers to fight for trans rights, create a new office of LGBTQ affairs, and allocate millions of dollars to fund housing and healthcare for trans kids and adults

This is what fighting back looks like--elevating activists to materually support trans people.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

this is more than just marching in full regalia to Broadview and praying outside of it

this is very deftly trapping ICE into the position of having to literally - LITERALLY, to them - turn Christ away from the door

any Catholic ICE officer was probably shook, I’m really not exaggerating
