oof got three nearly identical resumes/covers cold emailed to me (not the hiring manager) with very suspicious github usernames ("ScriptWizard001" "StackCrafter4") and all from gmail addresses that are [email protected] format...

be careful out there, North Korean scam rings want to get you.

Tomorrow at @fosdem.bsky.social, @kradalby.bsky.social and I will be hosting a small @tailscale.com / @headscale.net meetup.

We will be at 11am on the bar on top of the Chéz Theo restaurant.
Dude. 💯

Looking forward to it.

I’ll be at Config Management Camp too.
Headed to #fosdem - looking forward to it.

Will also be looking for the EU version of KrazyGlue as I broke my glasses frames in London today.

Fun times.

While you probably know me best from my work in Developer Relations, did you know I’ve also been a great sales engineer?

If your company is looking for a new sales engineer/solutions architect with experience in infrastructure, DevOps, or related areas, I might be just who you need!

It’s near the end of the year and if you have L&D funds left here is my Eng leadership/platform must read list

- Accelerate
- The Manager’s Path
- The Staff Engineer Path
- Platform Engineering
- Implementing SLOs

Thanks!

I ended up finding one relatively close with good ratings between it and the city Center.

Should be good!

Julia's zines are fantastic. Great to give as gifts, and good way to get an approachable look at complex topics.
Wizard Zines is doing another Big Zine Sale again this year on **Friday, November 29th**! One day only.

here’s a google calendar link for the duration of the sale if you want a reminder: wzrd.page/cal
For people who are heading to #cfgmgmtcamp - is there a nearby hotel that’s preferred?

I looked at the conference website and didn’t see anything listed.

I got to spend the last week helping to build houses in El Salvador. Our team built 18 houses for people in remote villages who are barely surviving. Helping to build them a secure, dry, lockable house gives them a step forward and a leg up.

Yup. Most experienced people that I know in the tech industry wonder why anything works at all ever.
It’s remarkable that most software stuff works most of the time given the astonishing levels of complexity in modern tech stacks.

lots of discourse on whether there should be a True Detective S5 but only one right answer: hire Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny at their current ages, name their characters Mulder and Scully, make them longtime (work) partners, do not otherwise acknowledge the existence of X-Files in the show

Would you like to learn more about the importance of SLOs to Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)?

Check out this blog from @littleidea.bsky.social on Social Engineering SLOs https://www.ergonautic.ly/blog/social_engineering_slos/

And of course, attend the virtual SLOConf, where we will be speaking!

Anyone have a sweet GitHub Action for building and releasing a Go app?
I almost always say thanks to Siri. When they rise up in the future I want them to remember I was kind. Hedging my bets with our eventual overlords.
I ended switching back to an IC role about 9 years ago.

I don’t think I was emotionally mature enough to do it well AND be personally satisfied. It drained me and wasn’t where I needed to be for my own mental health.

I pretty sure I will have a much better time now when I eventually head back.
One thing I struggled with was the lack of clear “I did that” to point to and feeling like I wasn’t doing things that were worthwhile.

Those are false feelings that need to be dealt with appropriately - the things managers do are worthwhile and probably even harder than tech.

People are messy.

A distinguished professor at MIT who was my undergrad advisor told me that I had no future in computer science.

They didn’t realize I had written the security advisories they were explaining to students in their security class cuz I had published using my handle and that i was in the fucking room.
