playbook

1. this place is a hellhole, i’m sending troops
2. my troops can now carry guns, just in case
3. the troops had to open fire! i’m declaring martial law
4. they’re protesting my martial law. it’s an insurrection
5. because there’s an insurrection, i’m suspending elections

I can't tell you how many interviews I've done where I've been asked: If Trump's policies are so problematic, why are U.S. stocks rising so rapidly.

A bit of international context illustrates the real issue here.

U.S. stocks have dramatically underperformed other advanced economies.

Along the lines of people dressing up in inflatable frog costumes, I think an effective resistance tactic against these pathetic men could involve crowds of people pointing, cracking up and falling to the floor in hysterical laughter as tubas play clown music in the background

I'm shaking almost too hard to type. I entered SLC airport and heard screams and cries for help. I could see people gathered around, watching. I sped over to discover this woman face down on the floor, four grown men pushing her down, while she cried "HELP ME" and pled for her child.

“I spent three nights and three days in federal custody. During that time, I was never told what I was charged with, was not allowed to shower despite being covered in tear gas and pepper spray, had no phone call to my family, and no access to an attorney.” - George Retes, U.S. citizen and veteran.
I’m a US citizen and a veteran. ICE arrested me for no reason.
Jailed for three days without an explanation or ability to notify anyone, George Retes argues the only path to healing starts with the government taking accountability for its actions.

Every news anchor worth their chair needs to come out of this U.N. speech and say, “It’s clear the president is not well.”

We cannot dare to be silent or complacent in the face of this frontal assault on free speech.

We, the People, deserve better.

What we are witnessing is an outright abuse of power.

This administration is attacking critics and using fear as a weapon to silence anyone who would speak out. Media corporations — from television networks to newspapers — are capitulating to these threats.

worse

i feel bad that
i don’t feel worse

truly

i can (just) see the campus from my window

in a better world
i would feel really bad
that the man who said
“some gun deaths every single year”
was the “cost”
was shot
and killed
right over there

in a better world
a kinder world
i would feel worse

Since the initial report of the existence of this letter, this line's phrasing always struck me as the most odd. Is Trump slyly referring to a Lisa or Alisa? Is that the "secret" they shared?

Cost of Trump's D.C. Occupation: $1.1M per day.

Cost to operate public housing for D.C.'s entire homeless population: $169,226 per day.

It's not about what this country can or can’t afford.

It’s about priorities.
