Late to the party, but just watched The Human Trial (2022) by @lisahepner.bsky.social - moving documentary about stage 2 study of the ViaCyte insulin-producing cells. Available free on Hoopla - thanks, local library!

Sadly I no longer live in a city with Wegmans, but the rest is normal for me, too!

If you're not familiar with the podcast ologies.bsky.social, it's always great. This episode in particular, while not about #diabetes per se, speaks to #chronicillness generally as they discuss MS specifically.

(There's also an excellent two-parter on diabetes).

A nice weekend at Allerton Park in Monticello, IL for my wife's birthday. A nice place for post-meal sugar-control walks! #t1d #diabetes #allerton

I really feel this. I found the original Hoover article from the Diabetes Educator. Where does this pic come from? Is it in a book? Thanks.

It took me so long to figure out I could turn off the "critical alerts" if it was giving me false lows, but before that, I was practically begging my endo, "just let me prick my finger 20 times a day. It's better than this!"

Sorry to hear. That’s so unreasonable!

The only time I've ever torn pump tubing was on an airport bathroom stall door five minutes before boarding. Fast replacement and barely made flight (they had to reopen the jetway door for me). No fun!

"Diabetes device distress" is both alliterative and incessant in all the ways named in this article! #T1D #type1diabetes

In my latest post, I think out loud about diabetic “control,” its necessity, and the profound alienation it creates. Features a comic drawing and a story about spilling blood in a baseball stadium. #t1d #diabetes #chronicillness

The 1940 version of Elliott Joslin's "Diabetic Creed." There were lots of versions, varying with each new edition of the textbook _Diabetes Mellitus_. Mostly advice to doctors on diagnosis and treatment, some moral judgments and eugenics appear, too! #diabetes #t1d #history

It’s true in main, and it’s helpful to remind diabetics to take care. But given that we diabetics often grow up with this stark moral opposition, it’s no wonder we’re exhausted and slightly neurotic. #t1d #diabetes #chronicillness

My grandma used to give us wrapped boxes of Lucky Charms for Christmas. At Christmas 1987 (5 months after diagnosis), my brother unwrapped his box as normal. I unwrapped mine excitedly. It was Cheerios.

Welcome to diabetes, you little bastard. #T1D #diabetes #type1diabetes #chronicillness

In this post, I explain the basic principles of using an insulin pump, and then talk a little bit about why it’s hard to use. This one’s a bit longer (~2700 words), but I think it’s pretty easy to read. #T1D #diabetes #type1diabetes #chronicillness
