Somewhere in a Roman brickyard, around 1800 years ago, a fresh tile was drying ahead of firing - until a dog trotted straight across it.
Centuries later, the tile has made it into a museum: not because of an emperor, but thanks to one dog who accidentally walked his way into history.🧵1/2

@nonzerosumjames.bsky.social Dear James, your work is very good and naturally comes at some cost - webhosting and downloads at least - so I was wondering if there was a way that I might contribute at least a small amount to the cost effort?

My latest pre-print is out:

"Pareidolic Illusions of Meaning: ChatGPT, Pseudolaw and the Triumph of Form over Substance"

I really enjoyed this one, where I juxtapose LLMs & pseudolaw to argue both create illusions of meaning that trick users.

A very interesting thread on AI utility in work
AI usage: 87% of executives use AI for work; 57% managers; 27% of employees.

This is both easy to believe and easy to misinterpret. AI is *genuinely* useful if what matters is FORM. Terrible at SUBSTANCE.

If useful for your job = your job just form.

i really forgot how fun it was to just sit down and make art for myself :')

Well this 2,600-year-old clay letter was a journey.

It comes from the archive of a goldsmith named Nabû-zeru-iddin in the heart of ancient Assyria. We’ve got someone left on read, a lawsuit, a mean step-mom, and people who get drunk and steal silver.
