Important to understand the Epstein stuff and the fascism and the corruption are, in a lot of ways, really all the same story from different angles: powerful men who can and do abuse vulnerable people around them because they can, and because systems of elite accountability catastrophically failed

Happy birthday to Wallace Shawn, best known to #StarTrek fans as Grand Nagus Zek on #StarTrekDS9. In addition to being a playwright, he's also known for iconic roles like Vizzini in The Princess Bride and Rex in the Toy Story movies—and dozens more.

I would find the imminent ousting of Keir Starmer immeasurably funnier if not for the fact that he'll be replaced by someone even more inept and amoral.

In a significantly weirder case, "Sleeping Lady with Black Vase" is a 1928 oil painting by Róbert Berény. It was lost in WWII, and considered looted by the Nazis and likely destroyed afterwards in the chaos... until someone recognized it as set dressing in the movie "Stuart Little."

Yes, really.

"Howard’s laws were also strong enough to let Labor block Woodside’s enormous North West Shelf gas expansion if Plibersek or Watt had wanted to. It wasn’t the laws that were too weak to stop those projects, it was the ministers."

Damned fucking right.
It wasn’t the laws that were too weak to stop those projects, it was the ministers
The Prime Minister is betting that by 2028 people will forget the North West Shelf and EPBC backflips, but it would be a brave backbencher willing to make that same bet.

Q: It's election day in NYC. Did you vote for Mamdani or Cuomo?

Schumer: "Look, I voted, and I look forward to working with the next mayor to help NYC."

OpenAI pirated large numbers of books and used them to train models.

OpenAI then deleted the dataset with the pirated books, and employees sent each other messages about doing so.

A lawsuit could now force the company to pay $150,000 per book, adding up to billions in damages.

Be proud, fellow neurodivergents: I overrode the ADHD long enough to actually read ALL the directions of a recipe first rather than blindly diving in only to realize at a crucial moment that the next step should have been prepared ahead of time.

Many a planned recipe has been thwarted this way.
