I always think I'm going to enjoy drawing up my end-of-year list for Rockfort and then remember that it's actually a difficult and distressing process

The Israeli military’s genocide isn’t over, it’s expanding.

The Israeli government has violated the truce nearly 500 times in 44 days, killing over 342 Palestinians in Gaza, according to Gaza’s Government Media Office, including 28 Palestinians in the past three days.

Can’t wait for the inevitable overlong, self-serving Right Hand Files post about this and why dinner with proud bigots “makes the celestial spheres hum within us, inviting a greater understanding of awe” or some bullshit.

I remember a kid at uni telling me that Resurrection was so good partly because it's structured like a symphony. Now I don't think that's strictly true, but I liked the idea.
Listening to it again now, I don't reckon the swing from the main song to the funky coda will ever not thrill - genuinely feels like some door opening and a new future stretching out beyond, a promise the Roses never truly delivered upon (and maybe that's why the promise of it remains so seductive)

Love you Pet Shop Boys but a ticket to see The Cure's show at The Troxy cost £56 including a donation to War Child. Charging double that for the 'Obscure' shows is taking the piss

He later denied saying this, but come on, of course he said it

Everything that Rafel Behr complains about - Starmer's lack of principle, his inauthenticity - was known from day one, but he, like the rest of the commentariat, insisted this empty suit was uniquely qualified. They will never admit fault.

'Something's Wrong' in particular still sounds astonishing, especially towards the end when it's like you're hearing ghostly bagpipes through the sheets of noise
Four decades back a major label released a debut album that sounded like almost nothing on earth while still sounding incredibly familiar. Our man in San Francisco Ned Raggett takes stock of it all

I’m past defending JC, but when Zack Polanski connected his Jewish heritage and family history to Labour’s immigration policy on Newsnight, and the woman next to him scoffed and shook her head, I did find myself thinking, “How interesting that we’re back to that being acceptable again. And so soon.”
I fully agree Old Jezza’s failure to clock the very dodgy mural reflected badly on him. I do however contrast the reaction to this against e.g. Sir Keir cribbing from Enoch Powell, the billowing sixty foot union flag crackdowns and Suella Braverman summoning fash football thugs to attack protestors.
