I should add, for context, the machine is A rated for energy efficiency, which is why it takes such a long time - apparently that's more energy efficient overall.
davidpaisley.bsky.social
I like my men like I like my washing machine... Quick and efficient
davidpaisley.bsky.social
That's so fast! Why is mine taking nearly 4 hours!? 😭
davidpaisley.bsky.social
Oh my eco cycle is nearly 4 hours...
davidpaisley.bsky.social
Ok, this is such a middle aged thing, but...

My washing machine has a 3:40 cycle, or a 49 minute quick cycle, why doesn't it have something in between? You know, when you're in a moderate rush? Has no one invented a washing machine where you can say "ok, I've got 2 hours, do your thing"?

Things I never thought I'd say until I got over 40:

"Well, that's quite enough excitement for one day"

This was the first test that had many trans people worried the Greens would fold. That they didn't is an excellent sign and a rare show of actual support for trans people from a political party that isn't just empty words.

More of this @zackpolanski.bsky.social ❤️

🚨 NEW | Anti-trans hate group "Green Women's Declaration" have been formally barred from Green Party conference.

The group sought a stall at conference, but their bid was denied by the party. Green leader Zack Polanski recently affirmed the party's support for trans rights.

I think sarcastically is probably the only acceptable use.

But I'm old. So my opinion probably doesn't count. 😬😂

I mean she's got an album called 1989, which is her year of birth, which is only 20 years ago, so I don't know how this is possible.

So I just read a news article that mentioned Taylor Swift's "20 year career" and I nearly had a heart attack and died.

You're beautiful, and everything is going to be OK.

Compulsory 'voluntary work' is just unpaid Labour.

Effectively they want to make migrants do community service for the crime of wanting to live in the UK
davidpaisley.bsky.social
I love volunteering, I've done loads of voluntary work. But if someone is being forced to do it, then it's not voluntary. It's a pretty basic principle.
davidpaisley.bsky.social
If "voluntary work" is a precondition to access certain rights as a citizen, then it's not voluntary, it's just unpaid labour.

There's another name for that.

That's not really the solution to the issue that's being raised.

The major political parties, broadcasters, and institutions should all leave X.

It's an extremely dangerous disinformation machine, and staying there only legitimises it and the chaotic agenda of the richest man in the world.

Who is a raving fucking lunatic.

I think you're right in that a lot of the up front cost will come from the taxpayer. But I suspect whichever private firm operates the scheme will be making the most of being able to build a data profile for every single citizen in the UK.
davidpaisley.bsky.social
Oh yeah for sure - there's a positive use case, but making it compulsory for everyone... That's where I'm not comfortable.

I love how Starmer says the BritCard is going to be free.

If an online service is "free" - you, and your data, are the product.

I'm astonished to be on the same side as the Tories against Labour policy, but here we are.

You know, if people don't have a passport they probably don't need one, and if they don't need a passport, they likely don't need a Digital ID Card either.

Yeah, the scariest is when I've been having a conversation in real life, not on my phone or WhatsApp or whatever, a chat with a friend & what we've been discussing later appears in adverts. I know they say they're not listening but it seems to happen so often that it's hard to say it's coincidental.
