I’m an @ou.edu alumnus (graduated with my PhD in ‘17) and I taught as a departmental lecturer at OUCIS prior to getting a permanent job. I am sickened by this news.

Like so many cases where people with legal immigration status are arrested up for no reason, this is deplorable and racist.

Excited for the launch of @drdavidtobin.bsky.social’s International Network for Critical China Studies (INCCS)! Now more than ever there’s a need for rigorous, reflective, critically-informed research on China. INCCS’s mission to avoid clunky, knee-jerk commentary is refreshing & desperately needed
Policymakers and the media need rigorous research by independently minded scholars to make sense of Chinese politics and society.

INCCS will tackle the big and difficult questions about "China's rise".

I never looked at Ground News before because I think the emphasis on left vs right is fundamentally misguided, but this is amazing: grouping @hrw.org and @hongkongfp.com together with Xinhua and China Daily as “the left,” then generating summaries muddling their perspectives even further. Sublime.

The story about the pressures put on Uk academics working on China (often through anonymous threats) is one that needs to be discussed further. There are lots of ways that UK unis can protect academic freedom without scapegoating international students.

If found guilty, she faces a prison sentence of up to 15 years.
