‘What is to be done?’ Important piece about the British Library.

‘… the new interim chief executive … needs to build a top team and board who have a greater understanding of its academic users – knowledge that is currently held by specialist staff rather than the leadership.’
I’ve written a piece on the curious lack of media and political interest in the issues faced by our national @britishlibrary.bsky.social. This is strange given we live in a world where ideas, knowledge and research are a long-term source of innovation and insight

The British library is in crisis: why does nobody care?
The widespread indifference to the British Library's crippling cyberattack demonstrates a perilous failure to value the knowledge infrastructure vital for national prosperity

‘He didn’t ask for permission to center his community—he started with his community at the center and asked the rest of us to meet him there.’

Important message to a world that only allows for difference as long as it fits in reasonably smoothly.

This case would be a farce if it weren't so tragic. Chow Hang-tung and co are being accused of subversion for organising annual candlelight vigils to mourn the Tiananmen Square Massacre dead and seeking justice for them.
A HK court has rejected an application by Tiananmen activist Chow Hang-tung to have the subversion charge against her quashed, saying prosecutors have adequately specified the allegations to ensure a fair trial. In full: buff.ly/3Kim6PG
