There’s a lot to despair about in journalism lately. But the rise of visual forensics in newsrooms is fantastic.

If an editor in chief turns down multiple opportunities to review a piece, and then pulls it at the last minute after their newsroom has promoted it, she's a bad manager. That's not failing to avoid drama in her own newsroom, as Sally's piece puts it. It's awful for the entire institution.
The Bari Weiss hysteria continues. Exactly what in "this piece isn't ready" and "try harder to get comment from the administration" constitutes the death of American journalism? www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2025/1...

I talked to Cody Funke yesterday to make sure he understood our story would say he made mistakes. He reacted by chuckling and saying, yeah, figured as much but it needs to be told. Funke was super cooperative as we reported this story. He doesn't want to see this happen with another new coroner.

Pals! I've received several kind messages over the last 24 hours about the rescission package. Thank you.

As far as what this means for IdahoPTV specifically, we're in a wait-and-see situation. I'm going to keep trucking. I have lots of work to do for this 4th grade Idaho history series. (1/2)

Quick update 🧵 for the Nettleton Gulch Fire before my off-grid week

Better mapping puts fire at 38 acres, no recent growth, no significant heat on satellite.

There's a handline around the fire. No containment yet, but given wx & resources, this fire is effectively done.

Idiots are questioning the firefighter procession being organized quickly

WTF

This is standard op for a fallen firefighter transport. And even at the funeral home they will have an escort standing guard until buried.

I know several people who have performed this solemn task

With both Kohberger and the CDA shooting making news in a 24-hour span, if you are tempted to reduce these stories to "Idaho has crazies," please remember:

-Kohberger wasn't from here.
-All of the victims were Idahoans.
-These statements negatively impact communities that are already hurting.
