Exploded view of new Yamaha R9 twist grip housing for Bikesport Development. In late stages of prototype now... biggest headache has been adequate thrust area when the rider is hanging off the bar vs. Can it be assembled with the housing split across the bar axis.

One of the standout features of the #PC27 is the plenum chamber as a structural part of the car. Deleted for 1999, the rear left mount was ground to make space for the crank trigger wire. We had a new mount EB welded in place and the rib built up with TIG. I very nervously dressed it back...

An @Ohlinsracing #F1 spec damper.
F1 dampers used to use fixed valving, swapping the entire unit for a fifferent spec, rather than adjust it
But, with the bouncing problems since 2022, they returned to being adjustable, to react to the cars behaviour through the weekend.

Engine illustration from what now seems a long time ago...

IC108E cylinder heads featured centre driven cams, adopted to keep the engine as short as possible. Cam caps are integral to the cam cover which with steel springs makes it quite hard to work with. 'Phase 2' version of the head with finger followers in place of tappet buckets + pendulum dampers.

IC108E centre V pump pack disassembled. Order of pumps from the front is - water pump - oil pressure pump - filter with head scavenge inside - oil/air separator (centrifuge).

The 108E water, oil, head drain pumps, centrifuge and alternator are housed in the engines centre V. The pump pack is extraordinarly compact and a real fiddle to assemble - tiny 6/32 studs and nuts. Head drain scav sits inside a donut like oil filter.

Given things have stalled a bit with the #PC27, thought I would post some photos of the engine build previously posted on the 'other place'. Starting with 108D of '97 next to 108E of '98. The E is a hell of a lot more compact to it's detriment. Also centre V pumps and crank.

Got to say, the Ferrai does look pretty. Nose particularly. This gen if car is a definite improvement visually.

Just want to say congratulations to Red Bull powertrains. Running a new engine on track for the first time is a huge achievement. Have a few old friends there - well done guys.

Picked up new Leyton House steering wheel from 'Dave the Trimmer' this morning. We made a replacement for the one that was stolen at Silverstone last year. If anyone has a lead on the original please contact Silverstone, Martin Stretton Racing, the police or myself. It should be with the car...

Broken Veil series 1 was magnificent (listen if you haven't already), Tond a wonderfully creepy ghost story. These two guys have a magic chemistry, a sigular story telling ability and deserve your attention.
Thanks to everyone who is supporting making the new series of Broken Veil…

Cheers. We wouldn’t be able to do any of this without you.

106B cockpit. Quite a lot of internal lighting needed to get these shots as everything internal is designed to prevent reflected sunlight at dusk and dawn. When JP crashed at Spa in '85 the gear stick pierced his helmet visor... scary stuff. #canonporsche 📸 James Ward Films.

This proved to be a difficult shot to get. Much lining up of car and bodywork with James Ward sweating in the roof space above (it was an extremely hot day + lights etc.). Worth the effort though. 📸James Ward Films.

956-106B engine bay. The flat 6 is the larger capacity motor Richard Lloyd Racing used in the the '86 season (by all accounts what arrived from the factory was something of a lottery). The team unusually used smaller than standard K26 turbos for added mid range (STD was K27). 📸 James Ward Films.

I loved this concept. Something similar my idle brain thought about in 2002/3ish but being an engine guy had no idea if it could work in paractice. Gains look obvious but as I understand it not so good in yaw. Remember thinking 'YES! Something really different and brave!' 10 out of 10 Williams.
On this day in 2004, Williams caused a stir when launching the FW26 as its nose, featuring two 'tusks', was unveiled.

With Ferrari dominant, the FW26 was limited to one race victory, at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

This post got me thinking about the parallels between painting minatures and my day job, F1, Indycar restoration. It may seem obscure but so many of the same rules apply - athetics, attention to the smallest mech detail, and when you think it's finished, push yourself further to get it to 100%.
I don’t Warhammer but boy do I love seeing everyone’s beautifully-painted miniatures

#OnThisDay in ’92, at Firebird Raceway near Phoenix, Ayrton Senna tested a Penske #IndyCar in secret, encouraged by then current Penske ace Emerson Fittipaldi. Ayrton was very quick - 0.5sec faster than Emmo - but he decided to continue in #F1 & he never drove an IndyCar again.
