Exercising caution before weighing in on this as I often find with stuff like this that there's a second update that turns it on its head BUT it does highlight that studios are now a/ one poorly-selling game away from closing and b/ one storefront (or lack of) can make that happen and that is bad.

We reject subjective obscenity standards and believe this kind of moralizing censorship evokes a darker past in which vague notions of “decency” were used to silence artists. Games are an artistic medium and lawful works for adults should remain accessible. We respect players enough to present the game as intended and to let adults choose what to play; lawful works should not be made unreachable by a monopolistic storefront’s opaque decisions. Steam publicly downplays human curation in favor of algorithmic sales optimization, yet intervenes with censorship when a game’s artistic vision does not align with what the platform owners considers acceptable art. Steam’s behavior passively shapes which titles developers feel safe creating, pushing preemptive censorship.

Fijándonos de nuevo en el informe de la GDC, según el cual el 21% de los trabajadores tienen más de 45 años, cabe preguntarse qué tipo de trabajadores son estos. Puestos seniors o de liderazgo, allí donde es más posible que la conciencia de clase haya sido diluida y borrada, ya que la excepcionalidad de trabajar en videojuegos hace 20 años era mayor que hoy en día. La no existencia de esta demografía más mayor conecta directamente con algo que ya hemos mencionado: la memoria. Si no hay gente mayor formando a gente joven, si no hay gente que recuerde cómo eran las cosas antes, todo lo que se ganó y todo lo que se perdió, se permite que cada nuevo profesional entre en un mundo de tabula rasa. No hay punto de referencia, no hay consciencia de las cosas, tan solo hay identidad repentina y puntual entre la persona, el puesto y la empresa-industria-mercado.

Aunque algunos de los otros juegos de Santa Ragione me han gustado mucho (Fotonica es guapísimo y Saturnalia está súper bien), en un principio no estaba muy interesado en Horses. Pero aunque no suelo comprar en otras tiendas que no sean Steam, sabe dios que este juego me lo compraré sí o sí en GOG.
