This will seriously disrupt aid getting into the county. Any country that even wants to pretend to care about Cuba and sovereignty needs to bring jet fuel to Cuba immediately
Cuban government has informed airlines that they only have about 24 hours worth of fuel left for planes.

Beyond the obvious damage that suddenly shutting down any country's air travel would have, a not at all small % of food and medicine in Cuba comes by luggage on airlines

Note the reason why talks were briefly cancelled. Trump should be asked: If he's only interested in preventing Iran from getting the bomb, as he says, why did the US threaten to walk away from Iran-US talks if non-nuclear issues (missiles, etc) were off the table? Trump is clearly lying.
JUST IN: Plans for U.S.-Iran nuclear talks on Friday are back on, after several Middle Eastern leaders urgently lobbied the Trump administration this afternoon not to follow through on threats to walk away, two U.S. officials told Axios.

Israeli TV presenter explaining why so many more people have been killed in recent days in Gaza:
"For the first time, there are no Israeli hostages - living or dead - on the soil of the Gaza Strip. This completely frees the IDF to attack, and you see the results."

Media coverage of Gaza has plummeted. So today on @thenation.com, we're doing something pretty special: we're only running pieces by people in and from Gaza.

We're calling it "A Day for Gaza." You can find links to all of the incredible pieces here. Please read! www.thenation.com/article/worl...

Floored by this story. A man wrote a pollite email to a federal prosecutor objecting to the deportation of an Afghan seeking asylum. DHS responded with an administrative warrant to get the man's info from Google, then visited his home to intimidate him.

"[Araghchi] stressed that Iran will not negotiate over its ballistic missile program..."

As I have been saying, the reason there hasn't been any real negotiations since the 12-day war is Trump's insane insistence that Iran must agree to become defenseless to Israeli bombing. 1/2

The justifications for war with Iran keep changing. First it’s nukes, then it’s conventional missiles, then it’s protesters, and now it’s back to nukes again. Kinda seems like war with Iran is itself the objective, and they’re just making up excuses to get there.

Iran is open to negotiating about its nuclear program, but Trump wants it to limit its missile program so that its missiles can't reach Israel - a completely unreasonable demand, as the NYT notes here. So Trump is going to send young people to their deaths so that Israel can bomb Iran with impunity.

One thing that should be clear about the coming war: it will be waged for Israeli regional hegemony. It is emphatically not about nuclear weapons; Trump's own conditions for a deal include limits to Iran's conventional missiles, because Israel should be able to attack it without fearing retaliation.

Yet Western leaders keep telling us that Israelis are the good guys.
‘Wet tent syndrome’ is killing Gaza’s infants

Israel’s restrictions on shelter and medicine have left displaced families helpless as newborns succumb to exposure and preventable disease.

Trump: "'If there was a different president Iran would have the nukes, and they would have attacked first,' he added."

For a person who so compulsively lies, Trump is remarkably credulous.

This is going to be a continuous problem given how much Netanyahu lies.

I used to think that people like @milestaylor.bsky.social, John Kelly, etc. who worked in the first Trump administration did a service in thwarting his worse impulses. But I now wonder if it might not have been better to let him do more crazy stuff to let voters better see how unfit for office he is

A first-hand account of the Iran protests by someone living in Tehran which confirms that organic protests initially prompted by cost of living issues were hijacked by organized groups intent on causing mayhem. Some of those who died were killed by these groups.

Given that Trump has 3 years left, it wouldn't be the worst thing if he took Greenland by force. This will result in the destruction of NATO. But it'll also free the EU to uphold the rules-based world order, instead of being browbeaten into silence or cooperation in Trump's lawless actions to come.
Senior European officials increasingly believe it’s time to face the truth that Trump’s America is no longer a reliable trade partner, still less a dependable security ally.

The big conversation about what comes next has already begun.

The war against Iran was postponed, but it is coming. The question is: Where is the American antiwar movement? It doesn't exist. This is why I said what I said below: the US is the most dangerous country in the world not merely because of its strong military, but the disinterest of its citizens.

Something tells me that Trump saw the interview with Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi on FOX today in which he talks about all the violence rioters were committing, and that that was the first time he heard that the so-called peaceful protesters were not that peaceful after all. Information bubble.
Trump echoes Islamic Republic of Iran talking points here.

“They said people were shooting at them with guns, and they were shooting back — and, you know, it’s one of those things.”

But remember, nothing is over until it’s over.

In the short-term, this will be disastrous for Israel, as neither Israel nor the US is in a position to strike down Iranian missiles at the rate at which they did last June. The US will also suffer many casualties. At which point neo-cons will go into overdrive arguing for a full scale war.
It looks like the US will strike Iran soon

I thought the US new national security strategy abjured imposing democratic change in its foreign relations. The truth is that if the US attacks Iran, it won't be to advance freedom or democracy. American military power now serves to assuage the ire of Trump as much as anything else.
