I don't think we talk enough about how Bari Weiss is a terrible writer. She's just terrible on a basic prose and communication level.

A striking thing about articles I’ve read claiming to “study the effects” of generative AI on student writing skills and consumption of information is that (1) they nearly always find the effects are negative and (2) most “conclusions” are still written assuming that we must use AI, for some reason.

Man, I sure would love to have Spider-Man's powers. Not sure about all that responsibility, though.

Hofstadter really nails this when he notes that conspiracy theorist set themselves up with an impossible task by inventing enemies who are absolutely evil and must be completely eradicated, but in a free society, you can't eradicate your political enemies. They will be perpetually aggravated.

It's the golden rule of grievance politics: you will never be happy. You are a permanent captive to the infinity goalpost.

Zombie narratives fit so naturally within a libertarian power narrative that it's amazing that Romero who invented the genre goes against the grain.

Weiss seemed like she was desperately trying to get fired so she could claim victimhood, but it was taking too long so she just kind of left.

I remember when some percentage of the online fandom cried out in horror after Disney nuked the Star Wars novels, making them non-canonical. When I was reading those books as a middle schooler, I never thought they were the "real" story of what happened to Luke, Leia, and all the rest.

Urkle did it first.

Students are routinely asked to read The Great Gatsby, a book from the previous decade, and they mostly understand it.

There's something extra pathetic about a public figure losing their mind on Facebook of all places.

What gets me is that well before Trump came back to power in 2025, the right was trying to cancel people. He called for football players taking the knee to be fired. But somehow that was invisible to the pundits.

What is up with the weird marks and defects like it's some rediscovered 70s exploitation film?

What the hell is up with that houyhnhnms-ass name?

Also, this guy tried to get a professor fired for calling him a bedbug.

I just discovered that Steve Guttenberg's memoir is titled The Guttenberg Bible. Well played, sir.
Books on a shelf, including The Guttenberg Bible, a memoir by the iconic actor, Steve Guttenberg.

And we just recently got Poor Things and Lisa Frankenstein. At this rate of growth, my projections suggest a majority of all films will be Frankenstein adaptations inside of a decade.

I saw this one for the first time last year, and I was surprised by how good it was. The first two movies get all the attention, and Bride is clearly a masterpiece, but Son of Frankenstein is just superb.

For me, the two most impactful approaches to mitigating AI is, first, giving a presentation and having a discussion about what generative AI is, its limitations, and what purpose writing serves. Second, using a grade system that emphasizes process rather than product.

I was gonna joke, "Reunion tour when?" But it turns out they're already in the midst of a reunion tour. 2002 me is pumped.

Post a horror movie everyone should see.

If only the left were kinder to fascists, then those fascists would in turn extend that same curtesy to the left.

Hey, girl! It's safe to come back to the theaters for Star Wars. We've learned our lesson after The Rise of Skywalker. We're no longer interested in playing it safe. That's why we got visionary director Shawn Levy.

Taking "disagreements seriously" is kind of the problem. It makes him a mark for bad faith arguments. In his interviews, he also lets his interviewers position themselves to his NY Times audience and doesn't push them on their more radical statements.

I love that Robert Redford's last movie was all about how cool and handsome Robert Redford is. And it totally worked because Robert Redford is just that cool and handsome.

I love the early Peanuts design with the extra big heads.
