A person who suggests even Pope Francis is best described as a "liberal" is really being unserious.

I'll definitely accumulate PDFs but my brain just doesn't seem to retain things as effectively without pages.

They are definitely gonna make it harder to concentrate on the move.

Having not really thought ahead, which I regret, somehow the only two books that are around are Foucault's fourth volume of the History of Sexuality (on Christian confession) and Virilio's Negative Horizon. This is God's way of telling me to work on my French.

Okay I'm gonna have to formally and publicly say you should not do this. Francis fingers are for everyone to enjoy. Not exactly clear who to call about this but I have to assume only a specifically designated Weird Guy is allowed to separate holy relics (i.e., fingers).

grumbling but I love it is actually the most accurate description of Catholicism

In the event that someday you get around to it, I'm sure you'll find readers (with all your spare time, of course ;)).

Yes but ironically in doing so, our own Canadian hubris, arrogance, and ignorance is licensing our own nonsense. We are not ok, unfortunately, in relation to governance and functionality, assuming you imagine the government should be accountable to people and the public and not profit margins.

This is so cool. Have you reflected anywhere on your pedagogical practice or the nuts and bolts of how you organize a workshop for a setting like this? Or have you found any resources that are particularly helpful?
deandettloff.bsky.social
Nah this is actually Catholic grandma coded if anything. Protestants become goth because they don't have Catholic grandmas.

Not sure what you think I'm trying here but the Canadian past time of ignoring Canada's problems by pointing south is not really doing anyone any favors.

As they should, that guy did a lot of stuff with that arm!

A Protestant friend sheepishly asked, "Is it really okay to...do that with someone's body?" To which I replied, "The pope said yes, so it must be. In fact, we're supposed to like it and I intend to." Catholicism rules. Get off the screens, get into the crypts.

They're not even allegations they're perfectly correct attributions

Explained this on a call with some Protestants at work today who seemed equal parts disgusted and intrigued and I assured them I'd let them know next time I hear we get a cool holy foot or finger or whatever from somebody touring through Toronto.

And that's all on top of the government's obvious appetite for ramming through fossil fuel and mining infrastructure already opposed by Indigenous peoples, appointing a whole cabinet position dedicated to AI, etc. Don't go throwing stones, Canada has plenty for us to get busy on first.

Buddy the Canadian government may not be at Trump levels of extremity but Canada is overriding charter rights by legally shutting down strikes, doing sweeping public cuts for massive new military spending, and is in fact bullying other countries via its extractive industry. Quite a glass house!

The guy suspected of starting the LA fires:

- used ChatGPT to make an image of a city burning
- asked ChatGPT about legal culpability
- couldn't reach 911 because of bad reception
- burned his Bible earlier

Not the most important part here but Virilio would have written an insane book about this.
Pacific Palisades fire suspect snared by ChatGPT image, say investigators - BBC News
Investigators say evidence collected from the 29-year-old's devices showed an AI image of a burning city.

This is extremely alarming. Prime Minister @mark-carney.bsky.social won the federal election promising to make us *less* depending on the US. Now we are hearing reports that he is offering up a CLOSER energy and military partnership in exchange for a trade deal... 🧵

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.
