He later created a program to assist in playing Kreigspiel chess (basically chess with fog of war), ran submissions for the DEC User's Society, and became a noted Scrabble champion with help of computers.

Not strictly video games, but an interesting story nonetheless!

Occasionally on Newspapers, I do a search for early mentions of the phrase "computer game".

A lot of pre-commercial results are for kids who made electronic games for science fairs.

Today I talked with Michael Wolfberg, who made a digital game in 1959 then worked on the PDP-1 at MIT.

I've always loved this European NES cover for Mega Man 3. Such a good composition.

The dynamic shadow effects are CRAZY!
Scavenger was created by author of Nebulus, John Phillips, showcasing an phenomenal shadow effect unlike anything seen before on the #AtariST and #Amiga. The collapse of Hewson saw John move to The Bitmap Bros, resulting in its cancellation.

Sega Corporation Presents... A Bizarre Creations Game.... METROPOLIS STREET RACER.

Play MSR. Even if you've played Project Gotham Racing, still play MSR. It's got subtly different vibes, and the timezone mechanic is still so damn cool. And it's just such an of-its-time vibesy racer. 💜

Sharks love our undersea cables.

Some suspect the weak, low-frequency fields attract sharks like distressed fish.

Fiber optics are particularly tasty; AT&T expressed no incidents with “old [copper] cables”.

In the 80s, telecoms called the incident Jaw's Syndrome.

My spinny table isn't big enough so this will have to do.

I'm really happy with the fake CRT look for the most part. There's a lens geometry issue that shows at extreme angles but I think I know how to fix it.

That'll be for the next build. 🙂
