#FindsFriday This bronze helmet was found in a field near Falaise in northern France in the 1820s

It dates to the late Bronze Age, around 1100-900BC, and was part of a cache of 10 helmets!

What could have prompted someone to bury all these? 👀

Now that the local and national press have started to cover the Portland ICE area round-the-clock in reaction to the President, Antifa have devised a plan where they are encouraging one another to come in animal costumes.

The costumes serve the function of masking the violent extremism to make the direct action appear like a family-friendly gathering on camera, and to whitewash the past ultraviolence.

In 2019, Antifa devised a similar plot by giving out free "milkshakes" at a protest. But they couldn't contain their bloodthirst and nearly killed me when they saw me. In 2020, they mobilized a fake "Wall of Moms" where female Antifa supporters and members wore yellow shirts to act as human body shields while violent rioters behind them hurled projectile weapons.

And leadership is trying to dodge accountability.

Sorry if that post was a bit reductive, my (or rather, my wife's, I escaped to the private pharmaceutical sector) experience in academia has been one of deep frustration.

I was a bit flippant in phrasing it, but I'm pretty sure you can't explain the incidences of corruption and exploitation (we have a whole thing going on where people are fighting against being strung along by many, sometimes dozens of, consecutive short-term contracts) without politics-brain.

At least here in Germany (outside smaller local colleges), these positions are in and of themselves very political and you need an extremely good network to even be considered for one. It's incredibly rare that a person arrives on that seat without knowing several guys in politics.

The most important lesson I learned getting my degree: University leaders are (in contrast to most staff) not academics, passionate teachers or inquisitive minds looking to improve our collective knowledge base, they are politicians (derogatory), and you must fight them like politicians.
