I thought I'd put the administration's proposed "compact" with universities in context, so I wrote the blog post below.

It's especially for journalists covering this story!

Many details about how the compact itself works and why the administration has retreated to this strategy.

If you feel like you're not strong enough for this moment, remember - we're the first generation of our species with a 24-7, high-def, live feed of the awful going on in every corner of the world.

Be gentle with yourself. It's too much for any one person to hold.

Do what you can. It *does* matter.

Sedation dentistry is no longer weird. Phone cameras are really good. The price of solar panels has dropped by tens of thousands. Southern white rhinos, giant pandas, Arabian oryx and Stellar sea lions are no longer endangered.

And, I can testify, modern cancer treatments are fucking amazing.

The largest SNAP cuts in history went into effect yesterday, eliminating or drastically cutting food assistance for millions of Americans.

And it’s all to pay for more tax cuts that primarily benefit the super-rich.

Jesus. Pam Bondi just purported to replace the DC police chief and revoke guidance from earlier today that instructed police to continue to comply with DC’s sanctuary laws — laws duly passed by our city council, elected by our voters.

Even more radical than we’d feared.
The attorney general's directive comes hours after Smith directed MPD officers to share information with immigration agencies regarding people not in custody - such as someone involved in a traffic stop or
checkpoint. The Justice Department said Bondi disagreed with the police chief's directive because it allowed for continued enforcement of "sanctuary policies." Bondi said she was rescinding that order as well as other MPD policies limiting inquires into immigration status and preventing arrests based solely on federal immigration warrants.
All new directives must now receive approval from Cole, the attorney general said.

THIS IS NOT CONSTITUTIONAL.

They cannot commandeer state and local law enforcement because they want to.

THIS IS NOT LAWFUL.

They cannot use federalized guard or military personnel for civilian law enforcement absent rebellion and insurrection.

Comer: "We're gonna support doing this in other cities if it works out in Washington DC. We spend a lot on our military. Our military has been in many countries around the world for the past two decades walking the streets trying to reduce crime. We need to focus on the big cities in America now."
