I guess we're doing this now.

Telecom and tech attorney, mother, wife, native Texan, trying hard to be the change I want to see in the world.
In the last 36 hours I (a) burned the roof of my mouth so badly I have a raw spot that bled when I brushed my teeth, (b) put a chair down on an existing injured spot on my foot & (c) caught my knuckle in the car door and my ring finger swelled up so much I almost couldn’t get my rings off.

Tonight’s movie: Best in Show, one of the best ever from the late, great Catherine O’Hara.

Movie night tonight is Song Sung Blue. Kate Hudson is amazing in this and also the entire late 80s setting is 🤌😘.

I closed a deal today. By tradition, I make myself a deal closing cocktail. But I’m bored of my usuals (old fashioned, martini, paper plane). Please recommend something! I have bourbon, gin, vodka, tequila, good rum, plus various liqueurs (including amaros and St. Germain) and all the bitters.

Spouse broke a glass in the kitchen several months ago. We cleaned up all the shards and didn't think about it again. Until today when I needed to get behind the fridge and, in the process, stepped on a small shard that made its way under the fridge. SO MUCH BLOOD ON MY KITCHEN FLOOR.

Was finally able to get the car out of the garage yesterday, which required two successive days of chipping away at the ice in the shady part of the hilly part of the driveway.

Minnesota National Guard members have arrived at a federal building and were directed to distribute donuts, coffee, and hot chocolate to anti-ICE protesters. Guard members were issued reflective vests so they would not be mistaken for federal agents.

Booked a different hotel than my usual this trip, though I've stayed here before (it's been several years). I'm saving about $50 over 2 nights but the hotel has no fitness center and no smart TV. First world problems, I guess, but also shockingly out of market for this area and price range.

Hey friends? Do you strap a neck pillow to your backpack when traveling? Try to make sure it doesn’t smack seated passengers in the face as you walk down the aisle, ok?

Tonight’s movie with the kids is Smokey and the Bandit. There’s a lot cultural explanation going on, like the national 55 mph speed limit.

14 got a phone call during dinner. Was a neighbor boy asking if she wanted to hang out with him and his friend tonight. We ask the friend’s name and it turns out he’s the nephew of Mr D’s friend of 35 years. This city is big, but actually small.

Been dealing with some foot pain for a couple of months so went to get fitted at the good shoe store. Hilariously, I ended up the same brand they put me in 15 years ago.

Watching Inception with the kids. It’s been a minute since I’ve watched this movie and watching it with them is trippy.

On the 5th day of Christmas (1) the vet had to clip a broken dewclaw that looked sooooo painful and (2) our downstairs furnace stopped working, 18 hours after a 40° temp drop.

Tonight, enjoying the bittersweet joy of Spinal Tap II, whose (close to) first lines are delivered by the late, great Rob Reiner.

We host Thanksgiving every year. I always say that everyone is welcome. This year we had 15 and since the kids are getting older, that’s a *real* 15. And we might have hit the limit on how many people we can actually fit in our house at our tables - and how much food I can successfully make.

This year, I spatchcocked the turkey. I’m a convert. Dry brined it for three days, then roasted it at 450 for 75 minutes and it was perfect.

Dishwasher stopped working over a week ago. Yesterday we replaced the dishwasher drain pump, water inlet valve, and float switch. Still didn't work - appliance guy says we appear to have a problem with the water supply line - low pressure or sediment or both.

Got a call from a lawyer's assistant yesterday, asking to schedule time to chat about a client project. Agreed to make the time, thinking it might be a cross-selling effort. Turns out the lawyer wasn't a lawyer, but was a recruiter. Recruiters, don't do this. Call me directly or send me an email.

This was my take:

After sleeping on it, I am now less angry and critical of the Dems who voted yes.

Why?

Because they know the GOP is not going to vote to continue ACA benefits. Not now, not ever.

So they didn't give up anything they were maybe somehow going to get.

I'm mad about the shut down and worried about healthcare, but not letting people starve is a pretty good reason to cave on this bureaucratic fight, the more I think about it. So just say that: Republicans wanted you to starve rather than compromise, so we let this one go.
