On this day in 1978, Pacific Western Airlines Flight 314 crashed at the airport near Cranbrook, British Columbia. Of the 49 people onboard, 43 died. The plane crashed after the thrust reversers did not fully stow following an aborted landing to avoid a snowplow on the runway.

Been checking the science topics of the proposals approved by the ESO OPC for ESPRESSO. 75% of the time went to one type of proposal. Statistics-focused follow up of transiting systems. There isn't a single proposal focused on discoveries, atmospheres, or anything low-mass planets 🔭#exoplanets

When I got the contract to write a history of concentration camps in 2014, I hoped to keep the US from ending up here. That didn't work out! But now it's critical to understand how much is already in process and the enormity of what's coming. The sooner we act to stop it, the more people we'll save.
