I honestly think the one big thing propping up chatgpt and other chatbots is the increasingly distant, transactional, unempathetic nature of social relationships. I think it's nothing more than a lot of people don't have someone they can talk with non-transactionally, and chatgpt will show up.

When French historian Hippolyte Taine visited London in the #1860s, he described dresses he saw as ‘loud & overcharged with ornament’ & it is easy to see why when faced with this expanse of fringed blue. I like it though, exuberant, dramatic, visible, taking up space #V&A #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡
