While the crimes against children and subsequent treasonish coverups are the A story today, the B story is that we all need to wrestle with the question: does power make people functionally illiterate, or do the functionally illiterate gravitate toward power?

Figma told me its AI can edit images, so I asked it to make the background of an image transparent. It happily added the checkerboard pattern indicating transparency, rather than actually make it transparent or tell me that it couldn’t.

Ordered a couple tees (Texas Chainsaw Massacre & Alien) for my 15yo and gave @ironfortressrecs.bsky.social a try. The shirts just came and are really good quality. If you like metal or horror, give them a look.

The unfolding of the secrets in UFO 50 is one of the coolest things I’ve run into in any medium. The team that made this deserve every accolade.

Feeling a bit of podcast burnout, and been happy with going back and forth between listening to uncertain.fm and rediscovering my own music collection by hitting random on 25k songs.

Successful 10-word political platform: “We will fire all of Meta’s leadership into the sun.”
A guy died while trying to meet one of Meta’s AI chatbots in real life and Meta declined to comment on any of the substance of that story — but felt compelled to cover its ass on the record with respect to its relationship with Kendall Jenner.

Grim stuff.

While I’m happy Gavin Newsom is fighting the federal government because it’s the right thing to do, I’m going to shit myself if I’m told I need to vote for that tool in 2028. It’s got the flavor of Cuomo-in-the-pandemic.

Tired of getting bad information for his social studies assignment, my 12 year old has taken to entering “NO AI” into google queries. If only grown ups showed such wisdom.

Petabytes of critical government research that is marked for possible deletion cannot be archived because of technical and legal restrictions, meaning it is very likely to be lost forever:

Massive, Unarchivable Datasets of Cancer, Covid, and Alzheimer's Research Could Be Lost Forever
Days before Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced that 10,000 HHS staffers would lose their jobs, a message appeared on NIH research repository sites saying they were "under review."

It's wild that a 2028 Presidential campaign running on "Take Your Country Back From the Billionaires" would win by a margin that made Ba'ath Party elections look like dead heat runoffs, and yet structural disincentives mean we won't see it happen.
